Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: The midway point of the 2017 regular season arrives this week for Lourdes, as the Gray Wolves play three times, including a pair of road WHAC contests. Lourdes heads to Cornerstone and Indiana Tech on Wednesday and Friday respectively before hosting Saint Xavier on Saturday morning.
On the Air: Saturday's match against Saint Xavier will be broadcast tape-delayed on BCSN as part of Buckeye Broadband. The match will air Saturday evening at 11:30 p.m. as well as Sunday morning at 9 a.m. In addition, BCSN2 will show the match next Tuesday (Sept. 24) at 5 a.m.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his eighth season on the Lourdes bench,
Greg Reitz has a 154-98 (.611) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In his ninth season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has a 174-133 (.567) career mark. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history and was named WHAC Coach of the Year in 2015.
Series Notes: Lourdes holds a 6-5 series advantage against Cornerstone dating back to Oct. 8, 2011. Last year the Gray Wolves won two of three meetings against the Golden Eagles. Each school won at home during the regular season, with Lourdes defeating Cornerstone in four sets at home in the WHAC championship. The Golden Eagles are 3-0 all-time against Lourdes in Grand Rapids, Mich. Lourdes holds a 6-5 series edge all-time against Indiana Tech dating back to Oct. 1, 2010, and has won five straight matches against the Warriors. Last year the Gray Wolves swept the only meeting against Indiana Tech at the Ebeid Rec Center. Indiana Tech holds a 3-2 series advantage in matches played in Fort Wayne, Ind. Lourdes holds a 2-1 series edge against Saint Xavier dating back to Sept. 21, 2013. The two schools have not met since Aug. 22, 2015, when the Gray Wolves defeated the Cougars in five sets in Arlington Heights, Ill. This is Saint Xavier's first trip to the Ebeid Rec Center.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes hit .336 on Wednesday evening on the way to defeating Concordia (Mich.) 25-10, 25-15, 25-22 at home.Â
Kristin Murrell led the Gray Wolves with 13 kills and 14 digs while hitting .448. On Friday, the Gray Wolves defeated Lawrence Tech 25-19, 26-24, 17-25, 25-15 at home. Murrell tallied 18 kills and 17 digs as the Gray Wolves won their 30th straight home match. Â
Scouting Cornerstone: The Golden Eagles have won three straight matches following a three-set sweep at home against Indiana Tech on Saturday afternoon. Kendra Zwart leads Cornerstone with 223 kills on the season and is hitting .341. Hope Leppink has handed out a team-high 670 assists while Maria Ma has a team-best 19 service aces. Defensively, Mackenzie Vallad has tallied 268 digs while Zwart has 82 blocks.
Scouting Indiana Tech: The Warriors have dropped back-to-back matches following a three-set loss at the hands of Cornerstone on Saturday afternoon. Aubree Eggers leads Indiana Tech with 113 kills and is hitting .266 while Karli Jones has a team-high 273 assists. Haley Paonessa leads the team with 14 service aces. Defensively, Madeline MacDonald has recorded 252 digs while Eggers and Jordan Aylward have 22 blocks each.
Scouting Saint Xavier: The Cougars have won back-to-back matches after defeating Trinity Christian in four sets on Friday night. Saint Xavier hosts Roosevelt on Tuesday and heads to Concordia (Mich.) on Friday before facing Lourdes. Bridget Krasowski leads the Cougars with 181 kills while Courtney Joyce has handed out 609 assists and leads the team with 21 service aces. Mariana Ayala has registered 248 digs while Alex Lambros has registered 40 blocks.
Facing Ranked Foes: Lourdes will play its 38th match all-time against a NAIA top-25 opponent on Wednesday at Cornerstone. The Gray Wolves are 13-24 in program history against ranked foes. Lourdes has lost three straight matches to top-25 opponents, including a three-set defeat at 21st-ranked Indiana Wesleyan earlier this season.
Double Trouble: Lourdes had three double-doubles in the three-set victory over Concordia (Mich.) last Wednesday.Â
Kristin Murrell tallied 13 kills and 14 digs while
Sarah Wisser had 15 assists and 10 digs.Â
Angelica Dippold added 11 assists and 10 digs. Murrell added her team-leading fifth double-double of the season on Friday against Lawrence Tech, registering 18 kills and 17 digs.
Moving Up the Career List: Angelica Dippold ranks sixth all-time at Lourdes with 618 career digs. The sophomore is just 51 digs shy of matching
Stephanie Richards (2013-2016) for fifth on the school's career charts. Dippold is 209 digs shy of second place in school history.
Home Sweet Home: Lourdes has yet to drop a match inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center. The Gray Wolves posted a perfect 11-0 record in home matches last season and are now 3-0 this year. In fact, the Gray Wolves have lost just two sets total at home in the building. Overall, Lourdes has won 30 consecutive home contests, last falling on its home floor against Northwestern Ohio in five sets on Nov. 1, 2014 at Tam-o-Shanter.
