Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: Lourdes closes out its two-match homestand on Wednesday evening with a key Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference match as the Gray Wolves host Aquinas. Lourdes will step out of league play this weekend, traveling to Calumet on Friday evening and Huntington on Saturday afternoon.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his eighth season on the Lourdes bench,
Greg Reitz has a 155-100 (.608) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In his ninth season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has a 175-135 (.565) career mark. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history and was named WHAC Coach of the Year in 2015.
Series Notes: Aquinas holds a 5-4 all-time series advantage over Lourdes dating back to Oct. 7, 2011, but the Gray Wolves have won the last four meetings between the two schools. Last season Lourdes recorded a 3-0 victory at home in the Ebeid Rec Center and a 3-1 victory in Grand Rapids, Mich. Lourdes is 2-0 all-time against Calumet dating back to Aug. 18, 2012, a 3-2 Gray Wolf victory in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Gray Wolves have not faced Calumet since sweeping the Crimson Wave at Tam-o-Shanter on Nov. 2, 2013. Lourdes holds a 2-1 series advantage over Huntington dating back to a 3-2 win on Sept. 18, 2010. In the last meeting between the two team on Nov. 2, 2013, Lourdes swept the Foresters at Tam-o-Shanter. Huntington's lone win came on Oct. 30, 2010 in Huntington, Ind.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes was limited to just .023 hitting on Wednesday evening in dropping a 25-19, 25-20, 25-20 match at 14th-ranked Cornerstone.Â
Emily Arnold led Lourdes with nine kills and four blocks. The Gray Wolves rebounded on Friday behind 12 kills and eight blocks from Arnold to register a 25-14, 23-25, 25-23, 25-16 win at Indiana Tech. On Saturday, Lourdes led late in every set before falling at home 18-25, 27-25, 25-23, 25-20 to Saint Xavier.Â
Kristin Murrell had 10 kills and 10 digs.
Scouting Aquinas: The Saints have won three straight matches after sweeping Rochester (Mich.) last Wednesday. Kristin Danielson leads Aquinas with 155 kills while Stephanie Chenlo has handed out 409 assists. Karly Morris has recorded 16 aces while Marisa Spetoskey has tallied 249 digs. Kylie Christensen leads the Saints with 34 blocks.
Scouting Calumet: The Crimson Wave have dropped back-to-back matches after falling at Olivet Nazarene last Thursday. Calumet hosts Saint Francis (Ill.) on Tuesday and travels to Moody Bible on Wednesday before hosting Lourdes. Alex Sullivan leads Calumet with 41 kills while Johna Fackler has handed out 46 assists. Sheyenne Piecas has a team-leading six service aces while Alyssa Morales has tallied 51 digs. Breonn Green has six total blocks.
Scouting Huntington: The Foresters have dropped back-to-back matches after losing in five sets to Marian on Saturday. Huntington travels to Saint Francis (Ind.) on Wednesday before hosting Lourdes. Josie Beaver has tallied a team-high 159 kills and 74 blocks while Emily Hubby has 333 assists. Ariene Butler has registered 15 service aces while Kate Cobb has 359 digs. An All-Around Leader: Emily Arnold has been a force for the Gray Wolves in the middle both offensively and defensively. The team's top hitter with a .274 percentage, she also leads the Gray Wolves with 63 blocks (1.12/set). She tallied a season-high 12 kills at Indiana Tech on Friday while hitting .529 and added eight blocks, matching her season's best total.
Murrell Does it All: Kristin Murrell has done a little of everything for Lourdes this season. The junior leads the team with 145 kills (2.64/set) as well as in service aces (16). She also ranks second on the squad with 187 digs (3.40/set).
More Double-Doubles: Sarah Wisser and
Kristin Murrell each had double-doubles for the Gray Wolves last week. Wisser tallied 15 assists and 12 digs at Cornerstone for her fourth double-double of the year. Murrell had 10 kills and 10 digs for her team-leading sixth double-double.
Among the Nation's Leaders: Angelica Dippold ranks 10th among all NAIA players averaging 5.79 digs per set this season. She has already tallied 243 digs this year in just 42 sets, despite missing the first four matches of the year.
She has moved into fifth all-time at Lourdes with 694 career digs. The sophomore is just 16 digs shy of matching Jordan Kerr (2010-2011) for fourth on the school's career charts and 29 digs behind Hannah Thompson (2010-2011) for third place.
Home Sweet Home: Lourdes had its 30-match home court win streak snapped on Saturday against Saint Xavier, a string that dated back to the end of the 2013 season. The loss to the Cougars was also the first ever inside of the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
This and That: Emily Arnold is the only Gray Wolf to appear in all 56 sets this season ... the loss to Saint Xavier was the first time Lourdes has dropped a match this season after winning the opening set ... the Gray Wolves have utilized three setters throughout the year, and all three are within 30 assists of one another (
