Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes reaches the midway point of the 2017 season with its first full week of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play. The Gray Wolves travel to Aquinas on Tuesday evening before returning home on Saturday afternoon to entertain Indiana Tech on Homecoming weekend at Lourdes.
Head Coach Jackie Donovan: In her third season on the Lourdes bench,
Jackie Donovan has a 16-23-3 (.417) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as overall as a head coach. She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Aquinas holds a 2-0 series edge over Lourdes dating back to Oct. 28, 2015 Last season, the Saints scored a 3-2 victory over the Gray Wolves in overtime at Wildcat Stadium. Tuesday's match will mark the first time Lourdes has traveled to Grand Rapids, Mich. to face Aquinas. Lourdes and Indiana Tech have split their first two all-time meetings 1-1 dating back to Oct. 10, 2015. The Gray Wolves won the initial meeting at Wildcat Stadium 2-0 before falling by an identical score last year in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes scored a season-high six times on Wednesday afternoon, closing out the non-conference portion of the schedule with a 6-0 victory over Cleary at Wildcat Stadium.Â
Remy Houttekier and
Megan Soncrant each scored twice for the Gray Wolves while
Tara Blundell added a goal and two assists. Lourdes opened WHAC play on Saturday with a 4-1 win at Rochester (Mich.).Â
Karlie O'Keefe found the back of the net twice while Houttekier added a goal and an assist.
Scouting Aquinas: The Saints have dropped four of their last five matches after suffering a 1-0 setback to third-ranked Northwestern Ohio on Saturday afternoon in their WHAC opener. Mariah Otolski leads Aquinas with four goals and an assist for nine total points while Anya Pallas and Morgan Halligan have two goals each. Pallas has six total points while Halligan has five. Kyle Robb has played the majority of the minutes between the posts, and sports a 1.03 goals against average and a 0.833 save percentage.
Scouting Indiana Tech: The Warriors snapped a two-match losing skid with a 3-2 victory at home against Concordia (Mich.) on Saturday in their WHAC opener. Indiana Tech travels to Michigan-Dearborn on Tuesday before visiting Lourdes. Tori Singstock leads the Warriors with four goals and 10 total points while Sydney Lemelin, Marina Steffke, and Shelby Lucas have three goals each. Chloe Parker has played most of the minutes in goal for Indiana Tech, sporting a 2.15 goals against average and a .711 save percentage.
Record Win Streak: With the victory over Rochester on Saturday, the Gray Wolves have now won four consecutive matches for the first time in program history. The previous longest win streak for the Gray Wolves had been three, but that included a forfeit victory as well. In addition, Lourdes' current six-match unbeaten streak (5-0-1) is the longest the program has ever gone without a loss.
High Scoring Output: Lourdes tallied six goals in its victory over Cleary last Wednesday, its second highest goal-scoring output in program history. The Gray Wolves set a school record with 10 goals against Andrews on Sept. 2, 2016, the only other time Lourdes has scored more than four goals in a match. The four goals at Rochester match the third highest output ever with a 2015 match at Lawrence Tech.
Houttekier on a Scoring Streak: Remy Houttekier has found the back of the net for the Gray Wolves in three straight matches, and has registered at least two points in four consecutive contests and five of her last six overall. The fifth-year senior now has a team-leading five goals this season, which ranks third on the school's single season list. Her 13 points on the year also are third most in program history.
Registering Clean Sheets: Lourdes has recorded four shutouts already this season defensively, with
Kerstyn Williams and
Kiley Transit sharing time in goal in all four contests. The four clean sheets are second most as a team in program history for a single season, behind the 2015 squad's record-setting six shutouts.
Program's Best Start: Lourdes' 5-2-1 start is the best in program history through eight matches. The previous best was in 2015, when the Gray Wolves started the year 4-3-1, but then proceeded to drop their next two matches. In addition, Lourdes won a WHAC opener for the second time ever, but has never started conference play 2-0.
First Goals: Megan Soncrant scored her first two collegiate goals and
Jenna Penz found the back of the net for the first time as a rookie on Wednesday against Cleary.Â
Abby Miller notched her first collegiate goal on Saturday in the victory at Rochester.
Captains Named: Remy Houttekier,
Tara Blundell, and
Kiley Transit will serve as the team's captains during the 2017 season. Houttekier is in her third season serving in the leadership role while Blundell is a team captain for the second time. Transit is a first time team captain.
This and That: Clare Ciarlino holds the school record for career goals (9), assists (8), and points (26) ...
Remy Houttekier now has three career match-winning goals, including two this season, second most in program history ... Lourdes' defense limited Cleary and Rochester to a combined 16 shot attempts on the week, only five of which were on goal ... with 15 assists already this year, the Gray Wolves have set a new single season record as a team.
