Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes looks for its first win of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play this week with a pair of league matches. The Gray Wolves host Cleary on Wednesday evening to wrap up a two-match homestand before traveling to Aquinas on Saturday for their lone road contest in the first half of October.
Head Coach Jackie (Donovan) Phillips: In her fourth season on the Lourdes bench,
Jackie Phillips has a 22-34-5 (.402) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as overall as a head coach. She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes holds a 2-1 series advantage against Cleary dating back to Sept. 23, 2015. Last year the Gray Wolves scored a 6-0 victory over the Cougars at Wildcat Stadium. Lourdes is 2-0 all-time at home against Cleary, with both victories coming via shutout. Aquinas is 3-0 all-time against Lourdes in a series that began Oct. 28, 2015. Last year the Saints posted a 3-0 victory over the Gray Wolves in the only appearance Lourdes has ever made in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Maria Schmidt's goal early in the second half tied the match at one on Wednesday, but Indiana Tech scored with 2:16 remaining in the second overtime to defeat the Gray Wolves 2-1 in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Kiley Transit made seven saves in the loss for Lourdes. Rochester (Mich.) scored twice in the first 10 minutes at Wildcat Stadium on Saturday and defeated the Gray Wolves 3-2.
Alyssa Swanson and
Hannah Martin each found the back of the net for the Gray Wolves.
Scouting Cleary: The Cougars are winless in their last three matches, but earned their first WHAC point of the season on Saturday in a 1-1 draw with Michigan-Dearborn. Kendra Pennington leads Cleary with 11 goals and 24 points. Elizabeth Perry has handed out six assists for the Cougars. In goal, Brooke Thomas has played all but seven minutes, sporting a 1.63 goals against average and a .651 save percentage.
Scouting Aquinas: The Saints enter the week having won six straight matches after defeating 13th-ranked Northwestern Ohio 2-1 in overtime on Saturday. Aquinas hosts Lawrence Tech on Wednesday before entertaining Lourdes. Hannah Crum leads the Saints with six goals and three assists for 15 total points on the season while Anya Pallas has found the back of the net four times. In goal, Kylie Robb has played more than 830 minutes, sporting a 0.788 goals against average and a .760 save percentage.
First Collegiate Goals: Maria Schmidt and
Hannah Martin both found the back of the net for the first time in their collegiate careers last week. Schmidt provided the equalizer at Indiana Tech while Martin pulled the Gray Wolves within one early in the second half against Rochester (Mich.).
More Firsts: Alyssa Swanson's tally against Rochester (Mich.) on Sunday was her first goal of the season, and the second of the sophomore's career.
Lauren Poslaiko also collected her first career point with an assist on the goal at Indiana Tech.
Scoring First Key to Success: The first goal of the match has proven to be a big one this season. Lourdes is 3-0 when finding the back of the net before the opposition, while managing just one draw (0-5-1) when yielding the first tally of the match.
Extra Soccer: When Lourdes went to overtime at Indiana Tech on Wednesday, it marked the third time this season the Gray Wolves have played more than 90 minutes in a match. Lourdes has played at least three overtime matches in each of its four seasons now, and a total of 13 overall. The Gray Wolves have struggled to net the match-winner in extra time though, posting a 1-7-5 record in such matches.
Moving Up the Record Book: Karlie O'Keefe's goal against Michigan-Dearborn was the 12th of her career, where she ranks in second place on the school's career list. She is one goal behind the all-time record-holder,
Clare Ciarlino, who scored 13 goals in 2016 and 2017. O'Keefe's 25 total points rank her third all-time at Lourdes, one point behind
Remy Houttekier (2015, 2017) for second place. O'Keefe is also tied with Ciarlino for third all-time with three match-winners, one behind the school-record of four set by
Jada Foster (2015-2016) and Houttekier.
Nearing the Single Season Mark Too: Karlie O'Keefe enters the week with six goals on the season, one shy of the school's single season mark. The current record is shared by
Jada Foster (2015),
Clare Ciarlino (2017), and
Remy Houttekier (2017).
A Solid Season in Goal Thus Far: Kiley Transit has been solid for Lourdes between the posts through her first eight appearances this season. The redshirt-junior has posted a 1.19 goals against average and an .824 save percentage in 679 minutes. Both marks are currently on pace to challenge the school's single season record.
Captains Selected: Lourdes has announced tri-captains for the 2018 season.
Kiley Transit will serve as a captain for the second consecutive season while
Reagan Boice and
Delaney Gravlin will serve in a leadership role for the first time with the Gray Wolves.
This and That: Alyssa Swanson and
Helena Rammal have played in a school-record 53 career matches ... the Gray Wolves have yet to be shut out this season ... Lourdes' 26 shot attempts against Rochester (Mich.) were a season high.
