Men's Soccer Battles Madonna and Lawrence Tech to Begin Final Quarter of Regular Season

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes welcomes Madonna to Wildcat Stadium on Wednesday afternoon to the play the first of its final two contents at friendly confines. The Gray Wolves will then travel to Southfield, Mich. to entertain Lawrence Tech on Saturday afternoon.

Head Coach Barry Spitzer: In his fourth season on the Lourdes bench, Barry Spitzer has a 20-35-5 (.375) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as a men's soccer collegiate head coach at four-year programs.  He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: The Gray Wolves trail Madonna in the all-time series between the two schools by a 0-2-1 margin. Lourdes played the Crusaders to a hard-fought 1-1 draw in 2015 when the schools met for the first time. Lourdes has since dropped the last two matchups by a combined 4-1. Lawrence Tech has defeated Lourdes in each of the last two seasons to take a 2-1 lead in the all-time series. The Gray Wolves picked up a 1-0 meeting in the first ever meeting between the programs in 2015.
    
Wrapping Up Last Week:
The Gray Wolves enter the week after posting an 0-2 record a week ago. Lourdes opened the week by traveling to nationally-ranked and league-leading UNOH where it fell 5-0, before falling 2-0 to Cornerstone during the Gray Wolves' Homecoming match on Saturday afternoon.

Scouting Madonna: Madonna looks to keep the race for the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference regular season title tight this week, while currently sitting in third place in the WHAC standings, only two points shy of league-leader UNOH. The Crusaders are paced offensively by Yuri Farkas Guglielmi's league-leading 12 goals this season. He is currently tied for 16th nationally in the NAIA in the category. Marlon De Freitas leads the way for the Crusaders with four assists. Madonna has a deep roster that features 20 different athletes with at least one start. In goal, Joe Smith carries the bulk of the load and sports a 6-3 record. He ranks third in the WHAC with a 1.04 goals against average and owns a .567 save percentage.

Scouting Lawrence Tech: Lawrence Tech also enters the week looking to keep pace in the WHAC regular season race. The Blue Devils are currently tied for fourth place in the team standings with only six points separating the top-five teams in the conference. The Blue Devils share the load offensively as 11 players have tallied at least one goal, while eight athletes have multiple goals. Kevin Wright leads the way with eight goals, while Chris Serwatka ranks second on the team with six goals. In total, 13 players have notched at least one assist for Lawrence Tech, while Nico Rodriguez-Bermejo leads the way with five assists. Max Jewett leads the Blue Devils between the posts with a 4-3-1 record and six shutouts. He owns a 1.13 GAA and a .657 save percentage.

Getting Back On Track: The Gray Wolves have found themselves on the wrong end of the scoreboard during its last five contests and owns an 0-5-1 record during its last six matches. Lourdes will look to rebound with a home matchup to begin the week.

A Tough Road Ahead: Of the remaining four games on the Gray Wolves regular season schedule, three of the league's top-six teams in the WHAC standings are on Lourdes schedule.

Searching For A Home Victory: Lourdes enters the week still searching for its first home victory of the season. The Gray Wolves played a tough Indiana Tech team to a 0-0 draw in September but have not found much success at friendly confines. 

Climbing The Record Book: Ali Chokr has found a home between the posts for the Gray Wolves. The freshman keeper has made his way into the record books at Lourdes. He currently ranks second all-time in a single-season in saves (56), and ranks third in a single-season in matches played in goal (12) and minutes (906:06). Chokr also ranks second on Lourdes' career saves list, minutes played in goal and appearances in the goal.

Experience On The Pitch: Riley Hogan ranks third all-time on the school's all-time matches played list with 43 appearances for the Gray Wolves. He is also third in school history with 35 career starts. 

Captain: Reece Riccardi will serve as the Gray Wolves lone captain for the 2018 season. This will mark his first season in a leadership role for the Gray Wolves.

This And That: Ali Chokr is on pace to own both the single season saves record and the career saves record ... The Gray Wolves five consecutive losses are the third longest such streak in program history.
