Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: Postseason play begins for Lourdes University on Wednesday evening inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center as the Gray Wolves entertain Madonna in the quarterfinals of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament.
On the Air: Wednesday's match against Madonna will be broadcast tape-delayed on BCSN2 as part of Buckeye Broadband. The match will air on BCSN2 Thursday morning at midnight and 5:30 p.m. as well as Friday at 1 p.m. and Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. In addition, BCSN will show the match Thursday at 9:30 a.m. and Friday at 4:30 a.m.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his ninth season on the Lourdes bench,
Greg Reitz has a 186-116 (.616) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In his 10th season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has a 204-151 (.575) career mark. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history and was named WHAC Coach of the Year in 2015.
Series Notes: Madonna holds a slim 8-7 series advantage dating back to the initial meeting on Oct. 8, 2010. Both schools won on the other's home court during the 2018 regular season, with Lourdes posting a four-set win, 25-19, 25-13, 18-25, 26-24, in Livonia, Mich. on Sept. 19. Madonna earned a three-set sweep inside the Ebeid Rec Center on Oct. 24, 37-35, 25-23, 25-18. The all-time series is split 1-1 inside the Ebeid Rec Center. The Gray Wolves hold a 2-1 edge in WHAC tournament matches after defeating the Crusaders at Madonna in five sets in the 2017 WHAC semifinals.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes snapped a five-match losing skid on Wednesday evening with a 25-17, 25-16, 25-12 sweep at home against Rochester (Mich.).
Kristin Murrell tallied 14 kills and 14 digs while hitting .433 to pace the Gray Wolves while
Allie Hale added 12 kills. Lourdes closed the regular season on Saturday against Northwestern Ohio, falling to the Racers in four sets 25-10, 13-25, 25-22, 25-18 on Senior Day. Murrell tallied 18 kills and hit .348 while
Niki Polce and
Monique Oliveira had 20 digs each.
Scouting Madonna: The Crusaders enter the WHAC tournament having dropped back-to-back matches after falling at home to Aquinas in five sets on Saturday. Jodie Kelly leads Madonna with 428 kills (3.40/set) and is hitting .227 on the year. Lauren Korth has handed out 1,160 assists (9.21/set) while also leading the team with 43 service aces. Korth's assist average ranks 48th in the NAIA. Defensively, Alyssa Facione has tallied 484 digs (4.00/set) while Nyla Greer has a team-high 125 blocks (1.02/set). Greer's total ranks 46th in the country. As a team, Madonna is 23rd in kills per set with 13.22 while their hitting percentage of .209 ranks 42nd nationally.
Lourdes in the WHAC Tournament: Lourdes is 11-6 all-time in WHAC tournament matches, having won the title in both 2015 and 2016. The Gray Wolves are 8-0 in tournament history when playing on their own floor, including 3-0 inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
Another Winning Season: As the Gray Wolves head into postseason, Lourdes has already assured itself of its sixth consecutive winning season, and seventh in the program's nine seasons. The Gray Wolves are three victories shy of a fourth straight 20-win season and sixth in program history.
Single Season Charts: Kristin Murrell currently ranks fourth on the single season list for hitting percentage (minimum 100 attempts), swinging at a .342 clip.
Carol Goncalves is third on the yearly charts with 874 assists while
Niki Polce ranks ninth with 425 digs.
Emily Arnold is tied for seventh with her 81 blocks.
Career Rankings: Angelica Dippold ranks second in school history with 1,295 career digs while
Kristin Murrell ranks eighth in the same category with 530 digs.
Emily Arnold is second all-time with 232 blocks while
Evan Matheson ranks ninth with 87 rejections.
Tylar Roberson ranks sixth in school history with 608 kills while Arnold's .277 hitting percentage (minimum 200 attempts) is second best.
Jami Markus is fifth with 892 assists while
Carol Goncalves is sixth in the same category with 874 helpers. Dippold ranks ninth with 61 all-time service aces while Markus is one spot behind with 53 aces.
Going the Distance: Lourdes has played a school-record eight five-set matches already this season, posting a 4-4 record when going the distance. Three of the Gray Wolves' last four contests, and four of their last eight overall have gone five sets.
Digging Up Balls: Niki Polce has posted double figure totals in digs in all 25 matches for with the Gray Wolves this season. The junior libero has averaged 4.38 digs per set this year, and had a season-high 29 against Cornerstone earlier this year. She has tallied 20 or more digs eight times.
Double Trouble: Lourdes has had seven different players register double-doubles on the year, led by
Carol Goncalves, who has 16 in the Gray Wolves' 23 matches.
Monique Oliveira has added 14 double-doubles while
Emily Drenth and
Tylar Roberson have each notched three.
Jami Markus and
Sarah Wisser both have one double-double while
Kristin Murrell recorded her first of the season against Rochester (Mich.) last week.
Among the Nation's Leaders: As a team, Lourdes is seventh in the NAIA averaging 19.40 digs per set. The Gray Wolves are also 21st in assists per set, tallying 12.26, led by
Carol Goncalves, who is 34th nationally as an individual handing out 9.50 helpers per stanza. Lourdes is also 34th in kills per set at 12.99 while the team's .209 hitting percentage is 42nd best in the NAIA.
This and That: Lourdes has recorded more service aces (143) than errors (119) this season ... the Gray Wolves' team .209 hitting percentage is third best in program history ... Lourdes is 31-5 all-time inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
