Lightning in the Centerville, Ind. area forced the cancellation of the Lourdes-Indiana East women's soccer match on Saturday afternoon at Centerville High School.
 
In what was slated the be the season opener for the Gray Wolves, the two teams played a scoreless 45 minutes of soccer before a second delay for lightning occurred during halftime.  After waiting for nearly an hour-and-a-half, the match was abandoned.
 
The match had previously been stopped with 9:43 remaining in the first half, but after a little more than 30 minutes, resumed and the first 45 minutes were able to be completed.  Indiana East held a 9-3 shot advantage at halftime, including a 4-1 edge on goal.  The stats from the contest will not count though.
 
Lourdes will now attempt to open its 2018 for a second time on Thursday evening, when the Gray Wolves travel to Pittsburgh, Pa. to battle La Roche.  Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. at the Baierl Athletic Complex.
