Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes will both open the 2018 home schedule and close out non-conference action this week as the Gray Wolves return to Wildcat Stadium. Lourdes entertains Huntington on Tuesday evening before Ohio Christian pays a visit to Sylvania on Saturday night in the final non-league game on the ledger.
Head Coach Jackie (Donovan) Phillips: In her fourth season on the Lourdes bench,
Jackie Phillips has a 21-30-5 (.420) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as overall as a head coach. She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes will be meeting both Huntington and Ohio Christian on the pitch for the first time ever in women's soccer this week.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Bethel (Ind.) jumped in front less than a minute into Wednesday's match, but the Gray Wolves managed to earn a 1-1 double-overtime draw after
Karlie O'Keefe tied the contest in the 16th minutes.Â
Kerstyn Williams made five saves for the Gray Wolves in the first half while
Kiley Transit made six second half saves. Lourdes suffered its first setback of the season on Saturday, dropping a 3-1 contest at Taylor.Â
Maddy Hodgson scored the goal while Transit made eight stops between the posts.
Scouting Huntington: The Foresters have dropped three straight matches after suffering a 2-0 loss at Aquinas on Saturday evening. Matea Knispel leads Huntington with three goals and two assists for eight total points while Jordan Adam has tallied two goals. Autumn Demott has played the majority of the minutes in goal, and sports a 2.60 goals against average and a .776 save percentage for Huntington.
Scouting Ohio Christian: The Trailblazers are unbeaten in their last three outings after a 1-1 double-overtime draw at Shawnee State on Saturday. Ohio Christian hosts Wilmington on Wednesday before visiting Lourdes. Mylie LaFountaine leads Ohio Christian with 10 goals and four assists for 24 total points while Brooke Wilhite has added six goals and 14 points. Brooke Lezotte has handed out three assists. In goal, Mandi Kempton has played a majority of the minutes, sporting a 2.46 goals against average and a .679 save percentage.
Best Start in Program History: Lourdes has matched the best four-match start in program history with its 2-1-1 mark, also accomplished by the inaugural 2015 team. No Gray Wolf women's soccer team has started a season better than 2-2-1 through five matches.
Lourdes in Home Openers: Lourdes is 2-1 all-time in home openers since the women's soccer program began in 2015. The Gray Wolves defeated Bluffton 1-0 in the inaugural opener before downing Mount Vernon in 2016, both by 1-0 scores. The unbeaten string came to an end last year, as 22nd-ranked Taylor downed Lourdes 6-0 to open the 2017 season.
Scoring at Will: Karlie O'Keefe notched her team-leading fourth goal of the season against Bethel (Ind.), moving her into a tie for fifth place with
Tara Blundell (2017) for goals in a single season at Lourdes. O'Keefe's four goals rank her among the top-40 in NAIA in total goals.
Moving Up the Record Book: Karlie O'Keefe's goal against Bethel (Ind.) was the 10th of her career, and moved her past
Remy Houttekier (2015, 2017) for sole possession of second place on the school's career list. She is three goals behind the all-time record-holder,
Clare Ciarlino, who scored 13 goals in 2016 and 2017. O'Keefe's 20 total points rank her into third all-time at Lourdes. O'Keefe is also tied with Ciarlino for third all-time with three match-winners, one behind the school-record of four set by
Jada Foster (2015-2016) and Houttekier.
First Points at Lourdes: Maddy Hodgson scored her first collegiate goal on Saturday against Taylor, pulling the Gray Wolves within on, 2-1, at the time. The freshman has attempted four shots thus far this season, with three being on net.Â
Hannah Rousse drew the assist on Hodgson's goal for her first point as a Gray Wolf. The junior arrived at Lourdes prior to the season as a transfer from Delta College. Â
Sharing Time in Goal: Lourdes has a pair of talented goalkeepers, each of whom has seen significant action already this year.Â
Kerstyn Williams has posted a 0.67 goals against average and notched a .917 save percentage in 135 minutes of play.Â
Kiley Transit sports a 1.10 GAA and a .87 save mark while logging 245 total minutes.
