Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: Lourdes puts its four-match winning streak on the line this week as the Gray Wolves take to the road for the first time in 2018. Lourdes heads to Lawrence Tech on Wednesday before battling Michigan-Dearborn and Concordia (Mich.) on Friday and Saturday respectively to begin a four-match homestand.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his eighth season on the Lourdes bench,
Greg Reitz has a 173-108 (.616) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In his ninth season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has a 191-143 (.572) career mark. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history and was named WHAC Coach of the Year in 2015.
Series Notes: Lourdes is 14-0 all-time against Lawrence Tech in a series that began Sept. 17, 2011. The Gray Wolves won last year's meeting in four sets inside the Ebeid Rec Center, and have never been forced to five sets in series history against the Blue Devils. Lourdes holds a 7-0 series edge in Southfield, Mich. The Gray Wolves are 10-2 all-time against Michigan-Dearborn dating back to Aug. 28, 2010, and have won nine straight matches in the series. Lourdes has won seven straight matches via sweeps, including last year's contest in Dearborn, Mich., where the Gray Wolves are 5-2 all-time. Lourdes holds a 13-1 series advantage against Concordia (Mich.) dating back to Aug. 20, 2010. The Gray Wolves have won 11 straight matches, the last six in straight sets. Last year Lourdes won a pair of contests against the Cardinals, one at home and one in Ann Arbor, Mich., where the Gray Wolves are 6-1 all-time.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes opened conference play on Wednesday evening with a 25-15, 18-25, 25-17, 25-18 victory at home against Indiana Tech.Â
Monique Oliveira led Lourdes with 16 kills and 15 digs while hitting .406 and
Carol Goncalves added a double-double as well with 44 assists and 12 digs.
Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils have won four of their last five matches overall after opening Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play with a three-set sweep against Michigan-Dearborn at home last Wednesday. Zakia Hunt leads the Blue Devils with 116 kills and is hitting .332 while Kristi Doherty has handed out 320 assists. Doherty also leads Lawrence Tech with 13 service aces. Defensively, Doherty paces the team with 113 digs while Hunt has been involved in 23 blocks.
Scouting Michigan-Dearborn: The Wolverines enter the week having dropped four-straight matches after falling at Lawrence Tech in the WHAC opener in straight sets on Wednesday night. Michigan-Dearborn hosts Siena Heights on Wednesday before entertaining Lourdes. Gina Giacomini leads Michigan-Dearborn with 70 kills while MacKenzie Fuleky is hitting a team-high .236. Daniella Barile has handed out 153 assists while Erin Parrinello has recorded 11 service aces. Defensively, Caitlyn Carlson leads Michigan-Dearborn with 171 digs while Katherine Nealy has 28 blocks.
Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The Cardinals have dropped three consecutive matches after falling in straight sets at Bethel (Ind.) on Saturday. Concordia travels to Rochester and hosts Lawrence Tech before entertaining Lourdes. Delaney Bennett has tallied a team-leading 34 kills while Kylie Frank has handed out 83 assists. Tara Schatzle leads the team with five service aces. Defensively, Janie Bunge has recorded 74 digs while Madelyn Kragt has registered seven blocks.
Picking Up Double-Doubles: Carol Goncalves and
Monique Oliveira each added to their double-double total against Indiana Tech. Goncalves handed out 44 assists and had 12 digs for her third of the year while Oliveira added her second double-double with 16 kills and 15 digs.
Serving Up Aces: Lourdes has tallied 30 service aces in the first four matches of the season while committing just 16 total service errors. The Gray Wolves serve receive has been just as strong, as Lourdes has yielded just 10 total aces to its opponents in four matches.
Hitting Their Stride: Lourdes offense has been solid throughout the early portion of the schedule. The Gray Wolves are hitting .237 as a team, while tallying 12.50 kills per set. Defensively, Lourdes is limiting its opponents to just a .114 hitting clip.
In the Record Books: Lourdes has several players who rank among the top-10 all-time in program history in various statistical categories.Â
Angelica Dippold is second all-time with 1,087 career digs and is sixth all-time with 245 sets played.Â
Emily Arnold is currently second in school history with a .276 career hitting percentage and ranks third with 161 total blocks.Â
Jami Markus is fifth with 844 career assists while
Sarah Wisser is eighth in the same category with 275 helpers.
