Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: Lourdes wraps up a four-match road trip on Wednesday evening, as the Gray Wolves travel to nationally-ranked Madonna. Â Lourdes returns home on Friday evening when Siena Heights visits the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center, where the Gray Wolves will play seven of their next 10 contests.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his eighth season on the Lourdes bench,
Greg Reitz has a 175-109 (.616) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. Â In his ninth season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has a 193-144 (.573) career mark. Â He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history and was named WHAC Coach of the Year in 2015.
Series Notes: Madonna holds a 7-6 all-time series advantage against Lourdes dating back to Oct. 8, 2010. Â The Gray Wolves have won five of the last six meetings between the two schools after the two teams split a pair of contests in 2017. Â Madonna won the regular season meeting in four sets before Lourdes earned a five-set victory in the WHAC semifinals. Â Both matches took place in Livonia, Mich., where the Crusaders hold a 5-2 series edge. Â Lourdes is 11-7 all-time against Siena Heights dating back to Sept. 10, 2010. Â The Gray Wolves have won five of the last six meetings between the two schools. Â Last year, Siena Heights swept the meeting in Adrian, Mich. before Lourdes was a four-set victor at the Ebeid Rec Center. Â The Gray Wolves are 2-0 all-time against the Saints inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes dropped its first match of the 2016 season on Wednesday night, suffering an 11-25, 25-23, 25-23, 23-25, 15-8 setback at Lawrence Tech. Â
Monique Oliveira led the Gray Wolves with 18 kills and 11 digs. Â Lourdes bounced back on Friday with a 25-23, 20-25, 25-22, 25-17 win at Michigan-Dearborn. Â
Tylar Roberson put down 15 kills while
Niki Polce tallied 15 digs. Â The Gray Wolves concluded the week on Saturday with a 25-12, 25-14, 25-19 sweep at Concordia (Mich.). Â Oliveira had 14 kills and 13 digs in the victory.
Scouting Madonna: The Crusaders have won four consecutive matches after posting a four-set victory at home against Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday afternoon. Â Taylor Suumeyer leads Madonna with 142 kills while Erica LaBaere is hitting .273. Â Lauren Korth has handed out a team-leading 389 assists while Olivia Sweeney has registered 18 service aces. Â Defensively, Alyssa Facione has tallied a team-high 182 digs while Nyla Greer has been involved in 38 total blocks, including nine solos.
Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints enter the week having won three straight matches after a straight sets victory at Rochester (Mich.) on Saturday. Â Siena Heights hosts Indiana Tech on Wednesday before visiting Lourdes. Â Christine Tylutki leads Siena Heights with 76 kills on the year while Ashleigh Shay is hitting .222. Â Carrigan Gray has handed out 263 assists and leads the team with 16 service aces. Â Defensively, Bianca Negron has tallied a team-high 126 digs while Shay has been involved in 32 blocks.
Alopecia Areata Awareness Night: Lourdes will be hosting an Alopecia Areata Awareness Night on Friday evening in conjunction with the Gray Wolves' match against Siena Heights. Â Alopecia areata is an autoimmune skin disease resulting in the loss of hair on the scalp and elsewhere on the body. Â Donations for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation will be accepted in the lobby of the Ebeid Center throughout the match, along with an informational table.
Earning WHAC Honors: Monique Oliveira was named the WHAC Attacker of the Week and
Carol Goncalves earned WHAC Setter of the Week honors after Lourdes went 2-1 last week. Â Oliveira hit .297 while averaging 3.75 kills per set for the Gray Wolves. Â She tallied three double-doubles, averaging 3.17 digs per set as well on the week. Â Goncalves handed out 10.17 assists per set for the Gray Wolves in the three road matches. Â She tallied at least 40 assists in each contest, and added 2.33 digs per set.
Among the Nation's Leaders: Evan Matheson ranks seventh among all NAIA players averaging 1.23 blocks per set on the season. Â The senior has tallied 32 total rejections. Â
Carol Goncalves is 21st nationally handing out 10.23 assists per stanza. Â The senior has 266 helpers in 26 sets.
Polce Solid at Libero: Niki Polce has had a strong start for the Gray Wolves at libero this season. Â The junior has tallied double figure dig totals in all seven matches this season, and has committed just two reception errors in 109 reception opportunities.
Serving Up Aces: Lourdes has tallied 57 service aces in the first seven matches of the season. Â Defensively, the Gray Wolves have yielded just 19 aces to the opposition in 26 total sets.
In the Record Books: Lourdes has several players who rank among the top-10 all-time in program history in various statistical categories. Â
Angelica Dippold is second all-time with 1,123 career digs and is sixth all-time with 258 sets played. Â
Emily Arnold is currently second in school history with a .268 career hitting percentage and ranks third with 171 total blocks. Â
Jami Markus is fifth with 849 career assists while
Sarah Wisser is eighth in the same category with 278 helpers.
