Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes returns home this week or a short two-game homestand at Wildcat Stadium. The Gray Wolves welcome Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference-foes Indiana Tech on Wednesday afternoon and Rochester (Mich.) on Saturday evening.
Head Coach Barry Spitzer: In his fourth season on the Lourdes bench,
Barry Spitzer has an 20-30-4 (.407) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as a men's soccer collegiate head coach at four-year programs. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes is 1-2 all-time against Indiana Tech. The Gray Wolves have dropped the last two matchups between the schools after winning the first meeting between the teams in 2015. Lourdes is 1-0 all-time against Rochester (Mich.), defeating the Warriors 4-0 in their first ever meeting in 2017.
Wrapping Up Last Week: The Gray Wolves got back into the win column last week after posting a 1-1 record. Lourdes fell to Mount Vernon Nazarene 3-1 before opening WHAC play with a 1-0 shutout victory over Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday.
Scouting Indiana Tech: The Warriors enter the week riding a three-match winning streak, including a 2-0 victory over Aquinas to open WHAC play this season. Junior forward Erick Turner paces the Indiana Tech offense with five goals this season, while sophomore Malte Dennert and freshman Jaxon Simerman are tied for second on the team with four goals each. Senior Ruben Leonardo leads the way with three assists. Defensively, sophomores Edwin Rosado and Ivan Safranic have split time in the goal. Each has posted a shutout, while Safranic leads the way with 20 saves and Rosado leads the way with a 0.36 goals against average.
Scouting Rochester (Mich.): The Warriors enter the week after falling to UNOH 7-1 in their WHAC opener. Offensively, freshman Francisco Alvarez leads the team with two goals, while seven other athletes have each tallied a goal. Francisco Alvarez also has the lone assist for the Warriors. Freshman Wyatt Chunn leads a trio of Warriors in the net, starting in six of the teams first seven matchups. The freshman has logged over 519 minutes in goal and has a team-high 29 saves.
The Senderos Effect: Brothers Nitram Sendeors and
Osbaldo Senderos lead the Gray Wolf offense this season as it looks to find its identity. The pair each have two goals apiece to lead Lourdes.
Osbaldo Senderos now has two match-winners this season, while
Nitram Senderos is tied with his brother for first on the team with four points each.
Athlete Of The Week: For his efforts last week,
Osbaldo Senderos was dubbed the Lourdes Athlete of the Week, earning the honor for the first time in his career.
All-Time In The WHAC: Lourdes is looking for its 11th victory in the WHAC on Wednesday afternoon in its matchup with Indiana Tech. The Gray Wolves own a 10-21-3 record in WHAC play since the 2015 season. Lourdes has appeared in the WHAC Tournament once in the program's history, falling 1-0 to Marygrove.
A Fast Start In The WHAC: With its victory over UM-Dearborn, the Gray Wolves won their WHAC opener for the second consecutive season in the program's four-year history. Lourdes fell to nationally-ranked UNOH in its WHAC opener in 2015 and played to a 1-1 draw with nationally-ranked Davenport in its 2016 WHAC opener. Lourdes dropped Rochester (Mich.) 4-0 in its 2017 WHAC opener.
Familiar Face In Goal: Freshman
Ali Chokr has now notched three consecutive complete games as the Gray Wolf netminder after splitting time in the goal in the teams first three contests. Chokr set a school-record with 12 saves in Lourdes contest at Saint Francis (Ill.) and has been the anchor in the goal since that contest.
Experience On The Pitch: Riley Hogan is tied for third all-time on the school's all-time matches played list with 39 appearances for the Gray Wolves. He is also third in school history with 32 career starts.
In the Record Book: Reece Riccardi is tied for fourth in Lourdes history with his seven career goals. He also ranks sixth all-time with 16 career points.
Chuk Moses is currently tied for eighth on the all-time assists list with four.
Ali Chokr's 32 saves this season is currently the fourth best mark in program history in a single season.
Captain: Reece Riccardi will serve as the Gray Wolves lone captain for the 2018 season. This will mark his first season in a leadership role for the Gray Wolves.
