Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: Having moved into a tie for first place in the WHAC standings, Lourdes faces three more league tests this week. Lourdes travels to Rochester (Mich.) on Wednesday before hosting Cornerstone and Aquinas on Friday and Saturday respectively.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his eighth season on the Lourdes bench,
Greg Reitz has a 177-109 (.619) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In his ninth season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has a 195-144 (.577) career mark. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history and was named WHAC Coach of the Year in 2015.
Series Notes: Lourdes holds a 5-1 series advantage against Rochester (Mich.) dating back to Aug. 21, 2010. The Gray Wolves have won five straight meetings between the two schools, including a pair of victories last season. Lourdes is 2-0 all-time at Rochester. Cornerstone leads the all-time series with Lourdes 8-6 dating back to Oct. 8, 2011. The Golden Eagles have won three straight meetings against the Gray Wolves, all last season. Cornerstone posted a pair of regular season sweeps and a 3-1 triumph in the WHAC tournament championship. Lourdes is 2-1 all-time against the Golden Eagles inside the Ebeid Rec Center. Lourdes and Aquinas are tied 6-6 in their series that began Oct. 7, 2011. The Gray Wolves won two of three meetings last year against the Saints, including a WHAC tournament quarterfinal tilt. All three of last year's contests went four sets. Lourdes is 3-0 all-time against Aquinas in the Ebeid Rec Center.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes hit .258 on the road Wednesday night on the way to a 25-19, 25-13, 18-25, 26-24 victory over 23rd-ranked Madonna.
Tylar Roberson hit .444 with 18 kills while
Emily Drenth also tallied 18 kills.
Carol Goncalves handed out 48 assists and recorded 16 digs while
Niki Polce added 20 digs. On Friday, the Gray Wolves fought off a pair of match points in the fourth set and rallied to defeat Siena Heights at home 23-25, 29-27, 19-25, 26-24, 15-9. Roberson had 18 kills while
Emily Arnold hit .609 with 14 kills and added five blocks. Goncalves handed out 39 assists and registered 18 digs.
Scouting Rochester (Mich.): The Warriors enter the week having dropped five straight after a three-set loss at Aquinas Saturday. Laura Wilson leads the team with 130 kills and 14 service aces while Jazlyn has handed out 18 assists. Emma Walters has a team-high 176 digs and Jaelynn Block has 31 blocks.
Scouting Cornerstone: The Golden Eagles have won three straight contests after defeating Lawrence Tech in straight sets on Saturday. Kendra Zwart leads the team with 236 kills and is hitting .293. Kayla Clark has handed out 342 assists while Bailey Cummings has a team-high 33 service aces. Defensively, Mackenzie Vallad has tallied 279 digs while Zwart has 95 blocks.
Scouting Aquinas: The Saints enter the week having won three straight matches after defeating Rochester (Mich.) in three sets at home on Saturday. Aquinas travels to Michigan-Dearborn on Wednesday and Siena Heights on Friday before heading to Lourdes. Kristin Danielson has tallied a team-high 158 kills while Payton Klein is hitting .337. Stephanie Chenlo has handed out a team-high 330 assists and Kelsie Fischer has registered 39 service aces. Defensively, Karly Morris has picked up 341 digs and Kylie Christensen has tallied 39 blocks.
Arnold Earns WHAC Honor: Emily Arnold was named the WHAC Defender of the Week for her role in the two victories last week. The senior middle blocker tallied 11 blocks and 16 kills in the wins. She had six rejections, including three solo blocks, against Madonna before adding five blocks, 14 kills, and hit .609 versus Siena Heights.
Among the Nation's Setting Leaders: As a team, Lourdes ranks 18th in the NAIA averaging 12.23 assists per set.
Carol Goncalves is 20th individually, handing out 10.09 helpers per stanza.
Quite an Effort: Emily Arnold's .609 hitting percentage against Siena Heights was the third best hitting night in program history (minimum 20 attacks). She had 14 kills on 23 swings without an error.
A Dual Threat: Evan Matheson leads Lourdes this season in both offensive and defensive statistical categories. The senior is hitting a team-leading .327 offensively while on the other end of the floor has posted a team-high 35 blocks.
Serving Up Aces: Lourdes has tallied 69 service aces in the first nine matches of the season while committing just 53 service errors. Defensively, the Gray Wolves have yielded just 34 aces to the opposition in 35 total sets.
In the Record Books: Lourdes has several players who rank among the top-10 all-time in program history in various statistical categories.
Angelica Dippold is second all-time with 1,123 career digs and is sixth all-time with 258 sets played.
Emily Arnold is currently second in school history with a .268 career hitting percentage and ranks third with 171 total blocks.
Jami Markus is fifth with 849 career assists while
Sarah Wisser is eighth in the same category with 278 helpers.
This and That: Monique Oliveira and
Carol Goncalves have each recorded seven double-doubles this year ... Lourdes is 25-2 all-time inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center ... six Gray Wolves have appeared in all 26 sets thus far this season ... the 62 kills for Lourdes against Siena Heights marked a season-high.
