Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes University opens the home portion of its schedule this week at Wildcat Stadium with contests against Bethel (Ind.) on Wednesday evening and Goshen on Saturday evening.
Head Coach Barry Spitzer: In his fourth season on the Lourdes bench,
Barry Spitzer has an 19-26-4 (.429) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as a men's soccer collegiate head coach at four-year programs. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes will meet on the pitch with Bethel and Goshen for the first time in program history this week.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes kicked off the 2018 campaign with a 1-0 victory over Indiana East on Tuesday evening. Sophomore
Osbaldo Senderos scored the lone Gray Wolf goal, while freshmen
Garrett Baxley and
Ali Chokr each played a half in the goal.
Scouting Bethel: The Pilots are riding a two-game winning streak, including a 2-0 shutout over Dordt on Saturday afternoon. Seniors Lucas Moreira and Bruno Jaeger lead the Bethel offense with two goals each, while senior Finn Luben leads has dished out a team-best three assists. Senior Phillip Keller leads the way in the net with 21 saves and a 2-1-1 record.
Scouting Goshen: Goshen enters the week with a 1-3 record and will host Saint Francis (Ill.) before traveling to Sylvania to meet the Gray Wolves. Through four games this season, the Maple Leafs are led by sophomore Stuart Aeschliman with four goals. Senior Murray Cockburn and junior Jimmelle Ramkissoon each have a goal apiece. Junior Tomas Fonseca has started all fours games in the goal for Goshen, posting 15 saves.
Lourdes at Wildcat Stadium: Lourdes owns an 8-12-3 record all-time at Wildcat Stadium. The Gray Wolves finished the 2017 campaign with a 2-5-1 record at Wildcat Stadium.
2017 Award Winners: With the start of a new season, the Gray Wolves will look to replace
Judah Goodridge, the first Second Team All Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference selection in program history. A senior last season, Goodridge led Lourdes with 11 goals and two assists for 24 points. He also tallied two of the team's five match-winning goals. Goodridge was also named to the WHAC Champions of Character Team while
Brett Chasnick and
Riley Hogan were WHAC All-Academic Team selections.
Top Returning Scorers: Reece Riccardi is the top returning scorer from the 2017 roster. A junior this season, he found the back of the net five times as a sophomore while also handing out a pair of assists for 12 total points. He enters this season with seven career goals.Â
Risaiah Osborne and
Tyler Rogers each have three career tallies entering the year.
A New Look in Goal: Lourdes will begin the year with a new starting goalkeeper after
Jose Cedillo graduated last season. Cedillo played all 1486 minutes during the 2017 season. A trio of freshmen,
Garrett Baxley,
Ali Chokr, and
Jorge Mendoza are all vying for playing time heading into the new year. Baxley and Chokr combined for a season-opening shutout victory over Indiana East, combining for six saves.
Experience Returning: Riley Hogan enters his senior season fourth on the school's all-time matches played list with 33 appearances for the Gray Wolves. He also ranks seventh in school history with 26 career starts.
Chuk Moses and
Reece Riccardi enter the season opener having seen action in 29 career contests, and are tied for 10th on the school's all-time charts.
In the Record Book: Reece Riccardi is tied for fourth in Lourdes history with his seven career goals. He also ranks sixth all-time with 16 career points.
Orlando Gomez and
Chuk Moses enter the season tied for eighth on the all-time assists list with four each.
Lots New Faces: Of the 30 players on this year's roster, Lourdes has 20 newcomers, 16 of whom are freshmen.

Non-Conference Success: Throughout the first four seasons, Lourdes has played well during non-conference action. The Gray Wolves are 10-5-1 all-time in non-conference tilts.
Captain: Reece Riccardi will serve as the Gray Wolves lone captain for the 2018 season. This will mark his first season in a leadership role for the Gray Wolves.
