Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: Lourdes returns home to the Ebeid Rec Center on Wednesday evening for its lone match of the week. Â The Gray Wolves will entertain Northwestern Ohio to wrap up the first half of WHAC play, looking to move up in the standings.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his 10th season on the Lourdes bench,
Greg Reitz has a 192-126 (.604) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. Â In his 11th season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has a 212-162 (.567) career mark. Â He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history and was named WHAC Coach of the Year in 2015.
Series Notes: Northwestern Ohio leads the all-time series against Lourdes 9-6 dating back to Oct. 2, 2010. Â Last year, the two schools split a pair of meetings. Â The Gray Wolves won in Lima, Ohio in five sets before the Racers snapped Lourdes six-match winning streak in the series at the Ebeid Rec Center in four sets to conclude the regular season. Â The all-time series is tied 1-1 inside the Ebeid Rec Center and Northwestern Ohio is 3-2 all-time against Lourdes in Sylvania.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes continued its home success on Wednesday evening with a 25-16, 25-20, 25-14 victory over Rochester (Mich.). Â
Emily Drenth put down 15 kills and hit .333 while
Alli Plasencio tallied 13 digs. Â Friday the Gray Wolves took to the road, falling at Cornerstone 25-1, 22-25, 25-21, 26-24. Â
Kylee McBride registered 19 kills and 11 digs while Plasencio had 14 digs. Â The Gray Wolves wrapped up the weekend on Saturday afternoon, falling at Aquinas 25-22, 25-18, 25-12. Â
Allie Hale had a team-high nine kills while Plasencio recorded 13 digs.
Scouting Northwestern Ohio: The Racers have won three of their last four matches after defeating Rochester (Mich.) in four sets at home on Saturday to close out a three-match homestand. Â Erika Angstmann leads Northwestern Ohio with 329 kills and is hitting .236 while Kayleigh Hulst has handed out 844 assists. Â Hulst also leads UNOH with 27 service aces. Â Defensively, Madi Kusluch has recorded a team-high 236 digs while Devon Heitkamp has a team-leading 56 blocks, including 18 of the solo variety.
Home Success: Lourdes has historically enjoyed success inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center and this season is no different. Â The Gray Wolves are 7-1 on their own home court in 2019 and enter the week having won their last four matches in their friendly confines. Â All-time since the building opened in 2016, Lourdes has posted a 38-7 record on its home floor.
Reaching the Midway Point: Wednesday's match against Northwestern Ohio wraps up the first half of WHAC play for the Gray Wolves. Â The league standings are tight, with second place through seventh place separated by just two games in the standings. Â The top eight teams will qualify for the WHAC tournament, with the first four earning home matches in the quarterfinals.
A Slight Break: After Wednesday's match with Northwestern Ohio, the Gray Wolves will have seven days off before hosting Indiana Tech on Oct. 16. Â That will be the longest time off for Lourdes the rest of the season, with one five-day break still ahead at the end of October.
McBride Putting Down Kills: Kylee McBride is having a stellar freshman season for the Gray Wolves offensively. Â The rookie recorded a season-high 19 kills at Cornerstone last weekend, her 11th double figure kill match of the year. Â McBride has tallied a team-leading 184 kills this season (3.17/set), and is second on the team in attack percentage (minimum 100 attempts), swinging at a .183 clip.
Dippold Climbing Career Record Books: As
Angelica Dippold moves toward the end of her Gray Wolf career, she continues to climb various categories in the all-time record books. Â Her 1,444 career digs are second most ever at Lourdes, trailing only
Michi Jimenez's (2012-2015) total of 2,143 digs. Â Dippold has also moved into a tie for fifth with
Molly Shonk (2015-2016) with 79 career service aces, and is only two aces behind Hannah Thompson (2010-2011) and
Stephanie Richards (2013-2016) for third on the all-time charts. Â Dippold ranks sixth all-time having appeared in 101 matches, one shy of Richards' fifth place total. Â The senior is fourth in sets played, appearing in 348, and trails
Lexie Curtis (2013-2016) by 31 for third place.
Setters Among Top All-Time at Lourdes: A pair of Lourdes setters currently rank in the top-10 all-time for assists in a Gray Wolf uniform. Â
Sarah Wisser is ninth with 329 assists while
Yasmin Assis has moved into 10th place with 299 assists already this season.
Doubling Up: Yasmin Assis and
Kylee McBride both recorded double-doubles at Cornerstone last weekend, giving Lourdes 10 total double-doubles on the year. Â Assis leads the team with three double-doubles while McBride's was the first of her collegiate career.
This and That: Lourdes ranks 47th in NAIA averaging 17.50 digs per set ... Lourdes hit a season-high .303 as a team in the win at Siena Heights ... the Gray Wolves have registered more service aces (99) than errors (94) this season ... Kylie McBride and
Alli Plasencio are the only Gray Wolves to appear in all 48 sets this season.
