Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Having moved into a tie for second place in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference standings, Lourdes looks to maintain its momentum with a pair of league tilts this week. Â The Gray Wolves will travel to Cleary on Wednesday evening before returning home on Saturday to entertain Aquinas.
Head Coach Jackie Phillips: In her fifth season on the Lourdes bench,
Jackie Phillips has a 30-43-6 (.418) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as overall as a head coach. Â She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes holds a 3-1 series edge over Cleary dating back to Sept. 23, 2015. Â The Gray Wolves have won two straight meetings in the series after downing the Cougars 2-0 at Wildcat Stadium last season. Â Cleary won the only previous match in Howell, Mich., a 3-2 overtime decision in 2016. Â Aquinas is 4-0 all-time against Lourdes dating back to Oct. 28, 2015. Â Last year, the Saints were 1-0 victors over the Gray Wolves in Grand Rapids, Mich. Â Aquinas is 2-0 against Lourdes at Wildcat Stadium, but the sides have not met in Sylvania since 2016.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Annah Zacerkowny scored twice and
Maria Schmidt added a tally on Wednesday as Lourdes defeated Indiana Tech 3-1. Â
Kerstyn Williams made six saves in net for the victory, allowing just a penalty kick goal with 1:31 to play in the match. Â On Saturday,
Maddy Hodgson scored a pair of goals as the Gray Wolves downed Rochester (Mich.) 4-0. Â
Chloe Shaffer and
Erin Caldwell also found the back of the net for Lourdes. Â Williams made 10 stops between the posts to earn the shutout.
Scouting Cleary: The Cougars snapped a two-match losing skid on Saturday with a 3-0 victory at Michigan-Dearborn. Â Harley Gorzelski leads Cleary with four goals and two assists for 10 points on the season while Kendra Pennington has added three goals and two helpers for eight points. Â Melanie Davies also has scored three times. Â In goal, Kara Donaldson has played all 810 minutes, sporting a 2.56 goals against average and a .723 save percentage.
Scouting Aquinas: The Saints had their four-match winning streak and seven-match unbeaten streak snapped on Saturday with a 3-1 setback to third-ranked Northwestern Ohio. Â Hannah Crum leads the Saints with eight goals and two assists for 18 points while Filippa Struxsjo has added five goals. Â Jenna Smith has seven assists for Aquinas. Â In goal, Braeleig McCoy has played the majority of the minutes, carrying a 1.09 goals against average and a .737 save percentage.
Williams Named Player of the Week: Kerstyn Williams was named the WHAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after leading the Gray Wolves to two victories. Â The junior goalkeeper allowed just one goal, via penalty kick, on 17 total shots against Indiana Tech and Rochester (Mich.) while recording her fourth shutout of the year against the Warriors.
A New Wins Record in Sight: With seven victories already this season, Lourdes is closing in on tying and breaking the school record for wins in a season. Â The 2015 and 2017 teams both posted eight wins, with only the 2017 team finishing the year .500 overall (8-8-2). Â The Gray Wolves are off to their best 10-match start in program history at 7-3.
A Record-Setting Shutout: With the clean sheet against Rochester (Mich.) on Saturday,
Kerstyn Williams tied the Gray Wolves' shutout record with the sixth of her career, matching
Erika Brinkman's (2015) career total at Lourdes. Â Her four shutouts this year are tied for second on the school's single season chart as well.
Spreading Around the Offense: When
Maria Schmidt and
Maddy Hodgson found the back of the net last week, they became the 9th and 10th Gray Wolf this season to score a goal. Â A total of 12 different Lourdes players have recorded at least one point.
Mann Matches Assist Mark: Just 10 matches into her freshman season,
Abigail Mann has tied Lourdes single season assists mark with six. Â The rookie handed out two more helpers at Rochester (Mich.) on Saturday, and also has moved into a tie for fourth on the single season points list. Â Mann has 14 points, equalling
Jada Foster's 2015 total for fourth.
A Little of Everything: Maddy Hodgson scored her first two goals of the season at Rochester (Mich.) on Saturday, completely filling the stat sheet this year. Â She now has two goals, an assist, 16 total shot attempts, including seven on goal, and has also played a match in goal, making nine saves for the Gray Wolves against Ohio Christian.
Experience in the Lineup: Karlie O'Keefe is the school's career record holder having made 61 career starts, 22 more than any other player in program history. Â Her 61 all-time matches are also tied with
Helena Rammal (2015-2018) for most all-time at Lourdes. Â In addition,
Lauren Poslaiko has moved into fourth all-time, having stepped onto the field 47 times in her four years. Â Poslaiko is also second behind O'Keefe with 39 career starting assignments.
This and That: Lourdes is 5-1 at home this season and 20-18-3 all-time at Wildcat Stadium ... 23 goals as a team this season currently ranks third on Lourdes single season charts ... with a win over Cleary, the Gray Wolves would match the longest winning streak in program history at four, set Sept. 13-23, 2017 and tied earlier this season Aug. 30-Sept. 11.
