Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: Postseason play begins for Lourdes on Wednesday evening, as the Gray Wolves travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. Â The seventh-seeded Gray Wolves face second-seeded Aquinas in the quarterfinals of the WHAC tournament.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his 10th season on the Lourdes bench,
Greg Reitz has a 197-132 (.599) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. Â In his 11th season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has a 217-167 (.565) career mark. Â He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history and was named WHAC Coach of the Year in 2015.
Series Notes: Aquinas leads the all-time series against Lourdes 9-7 dating back to Oct. 7, 2011. Â The Saints have won the last three meetings between the two schools, including both regular season contests this year. Â Aquinas downed Lourdes 25-22, 25-18, 25-12 on Oct. 5 in Grand Rapids, Mich. and defeated the Gray Wolves 11-25, 25-15, 25-15, 25-23 on Nov. 2 inside the Ebeid Rec Center. Â The Saints hold a 4-2 series edge in matches played in Grand Rapids.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes cruised to a sweep at Rochester (Mich.) on Wednesday, hitting .273 as a team. Â
Emily Drenth posted 13 kills and added 11 digs in the 25-17, 25-11, 25-15 victory over the Warriors while
Alli Plasencio registered 20 digs. Â The Gray Wolves rallied from two sets down on Saturday in the regular season finale to defeat Northwestern Ohio 18-25, 18-25, 25-19, 25-19, 17-15 in Lima. Â
Michaela Eisenhauer hit .320 with a team-high 12 kills while
Kylee McBride added 11 kills and a match-high 17 digs.
Scouting Aquinas: The Saints enter postseason having won six consecutive matches after sweeping Madonna on Saturday 25-9, 25-14, 25-21 at home. Â Kylie Christensen leads Aquinas with 297 kills and is hitting .338 on the season while Kali Crawford has handed out 1,031 assists. Â Karly Morris is the team's leader with 32 service aces while also pacing the defense with 539 digs. Â Christensen is the Saints' block leader with 98, including 11 of the solo variety.
Lourdes in the WHAC Tournament: Lourdes is 11-7 all-time in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament, as the Gray Wolves are making their ninth consecutive appearance in the event. Â Lourdes won the tournament titles in both 2015 and 2016 while advancing to the championship match in 2013 and 2017 as well. Â Last season the Gray Wolves fell to Madonna in four sets in the quarterfinal round. Â Lourdes and Aquinas have met just once in the WHAC tournament, a 3-1 Gray Wolf victory in the 2017 quarterfinals in a match played inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
Another .500 WHAC Season: For the sixth consecutive season, Lourdes finished conference play with at least a .500 record after winning its final two matches of the regular season. Â The last time the Gray Wolves failed to finish at least .500 in WHAC play was in 2013 when the team went 5-6 before advancing to the WHAC tournament championship match and earning a bid to the NAIA National Championships.
Among the Nation's Leaders: Lourdes ranks among the NAIA leaders as a team in both digs per set and service aces per set this year. Â The Gray Wolves are 42nd nationally in digs per set, tallying 17.89 while the team's 1.86 service aces per set are 43rd best in the country.
Single Season Digs List: Alli Plasencio jumped from 10th to fifth place on the Gray Wolves' single season digs list just last week. Â She enters the WHAC tournament with 472 digs this year. Â She needs 43 more digs to jump into fourth place on the single season list.
More Single Season Superlatives: Alli Plasencio has also moved into the top-10 on Lourdes single season service aces list this season. Â She has tallied 38 aces, which ranks ninth on the single season list. Â The sophomore is just one ace behind
Stephanie Richards (2015) for eighth, and three aces away from jumping into sixth place.
Digging Balls: Angelica Dippold is second on the school's career digs list with 1,604, trailing just record-holder
Michi Jimenez's (2012-2015) total of 2,143 digs. Â
Alli Plasencio has jumped into seventh place on the career charts with 656 digs in two seasons, and is just 13 digs behind
Stephanie Richards (2013-2016) for sixth all-time.
Dippold Third All-Time in Aces: Angelica Dippold continues to move up the career list in service aces. Â The senior has moved into third place all-time at Lourdes with 93 service aces. Â She is 11 aces behind
Stef Comte (2013-2016) for second place.
On the Assist List: Both
Yasmin Assis and
Sarah Wisser rank among the top-10 all-time at Lourdes in assists. Â Assis is ninth with 407 helpers while Wisser is 10th with 390 career assists.
Lots of Action: Angelica Dippold ranks third in program history appearing in 389 total sets over her four-year career. Â Dippold has seen action in 112 total matches, fourth most ever by a Lourdes women's volleyball player.
This and That: Kylie McBride and
Alli Plasencio are the only Gray Wolves to appear in all 103 sets this season ... Lourdes 14 service aces at Northwestern Ohio matched a season high (Madonna, Oct. 30) ... the Gray Wolves are three victories away from 200 in program history.
