Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: After upsetting second-seeded Aquinas in the quarterfinals, Lourdes turns its attention to third-seeded Madonna on Friday evening as the Gray Wolves have advanced to the semifinals of the WHAC tournament.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his 10th season on the Lourdes bench,
Greg Reitz has a 198-132 (.600) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. Â In his 11th season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has a 218-167 (.566) career mark. Â He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history and was named WHAC Coach of the Year in 2015.
Series Notes: Lourdes and Madonna have split 18 previous meetings 9-9 dating back to Oct. 8, 2010. Â The Gray Wolves won both regular season meetings, downing the Crusaders in straight sets at home on Sept. 25 before winning a five-set thriller in Livonia, Mich. on Oct. 30. Â Lourdes holds a 15-3 series edge against Lawrence Tech dating back to Sept. 17, 2011. Â The Blue Devils won both regular season, sweeping Lourdes at the Ebeid Rec Center on Sept. 18 and winning a four-set match in Southfield, Mich. on Oct. 23. Â The Gray Wolves hold a 9-7 series edge against Indiana Tech going back to Oct. 1, 2010. Â The Warriors won both of this year's meetings though, a five-setter in Fort Wayne, Ind. on Sept. 11 and a three-set sweep in the Ebeid Rec Center on Oct. 16.
Wrapping Up WHAC Quarterfinal Action: Lourdes hit a blistering .379 with just five attack errors on Wednesday evening in a 25-22, 25-21, 25-22 victory at second-seeded Aquinas. Â
Emily Drenth put down 16 kills while hitting .382 and
Kylee McBride added a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs. Â
Allie Hale hit .500 with 11 kills and
Alli Plasencio tallied 17 digs for the Gray Wolves.
Scouting Madonna: The Crusaders snapped a two-match losing skid with a four-set quarterfinal win at home against Cornerstone. Â Jodie Kelly leads all of NAIA with 583 kills and is hitting .252 while Betsy Cook has a team-high 731 assists. Â Olivia Sweeney has recorded 59 service aces and a team-leading 527 digs while DJ Sargent has tallied 113 blocks.
Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils enter the semifinals having won 14 straight contests. Â Zakia Hunt has 373 kills and is hitting .344 while registering 80 blocks. Â Kristi Doherty has 1,135 assists and 70 service aces while Shelby Rasch has tallied a team-high 492 digs.
Scouting Indiana Tech: The Warriors won their second straight match, downing Northwestern Ohio on the road in the semifinals on Wednesday. Â Olivia Niekamp has tallied a team-high 365 kills while hitting .228 and Madison Park has handed out 817 assists. Â Katrina Reynolds has registered a team-leading 30 service aces while Madeline MacDonald has tallied 749 digs. Â Havilyn Cummings has blocked 138 balls this year.
Lourdes in the WHAC Tournament: Lourdes is 12-7 all-time in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament, as the Gray Wolves are making their ninth consecutive appearance in the event. Â Lourdes won the tournament titles in both 2015 and 2016 while advancing to the championship match in 2013 and 2017 as well. Â Last season the Gray Wolves fell to Madonna in four sets in the quarterfinal round. Â Lourdes and Madonna have met four times in the WHAC tournament, with each team winning twice.
Postseason Honors: Kylee McBride and
Alli Plasencio were both named Second Team All-WHAC while McBride also earned All-Freshman Team honors. Â
Sarah Wisser was selected to the Champions of Character Team while Wisser,
Angelica Dippold, and
Emily Drenth represented Lourdes on the All-Academic Team.
Single Season Digs List: Alli Plasencio has jumped into fifth place on the Gray Wolves' single season digs list. Â She enters the WHAC semifinals with 489 digs this year. Â She needs 26 more digs to jump into fourth place on the single season list.
More Single Season Superlatives: Alli Plasencio has also moved into the top-10 on Lourdes single season service aces list this season. Â She has tallied 38 aces, which ranks ninth on the single season list. Â The sophomore is just one ace behind
Stephanie Richards (2015) for eighth, and three aces away from jumping into sixth place.
Digging Balls: Angelica Dippold is second on the school's career digs list with 1,605, trailing just record-holder
Michi Jimenez's (2012-2015) total of 2,143 digs. Â
Alli Plasencio has jumped into sixth place on the career charts with 673 digs in two seasons, and is just 37 digs behind Jordan Kerr (2010-2011) for fifth all-time.
Dippold Third All-Time in Aces: Angelica Dippold continues to move up the career list in service aces. Â The senior has moved into third place all-time at Lourdes with 93 service aces. Â She is 11 aces behind
Stef Comte (2013-2016) for second place.
On the Assist List: Both
Sarah Wisser and
Yasmin Assis rank among the top-10 all-time at Lourdes in assists. Â Wisser is now ninth with 431 helpers while Assis is 10th with 407 career assists.
This and That: Kylie McBride and
Alli Plasencio are the only Gray Wolves to appear in all 106 sets this season ... the Gray Wolves are two victories away from 200 in program history.
