Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes continues its four-match homestand this week with a pair of matches against River States Conference opponents. Â The Gray Wolves entertain Point Park under the lights on Friday evening before Rio Grande visits Wildcat Stadium for a Sunday afternoon affair.
Head Coach Jackie (Donovan) Phillips: In her fifth season on the Lourdes bench,
Jackie Phillips has a 23-41-6 (.371) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as overall as a head coach. Â She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes won the only previous meeting against Point Park, 1-0, in Pittsburgh, Pa. on Aug. 31, 2018. Â
Karlie O'Keefe scored the match's lone goal with five seconds remaining in regulation while
Kiley Transit made seven saves to earn the shutout. Â The Gray Wolves will be facing Rio Grande for the first time in program history on Sunday.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes and Taylor were tied at one at intermission last Saturday evening, but the Trojans scored three times in an 18-minute span in the second half to defeat the Gray Wolves 4-1 at Wildcat Stadium. Â
Katie Varney scored for the Gray Wolves in the eighth minute to tie the match 1-1. Â
Kerstyn Williams made eight saves in goal for the Gray Wolves.
Scouting Point Park: The Pioneers opened their season on Tuesday evening, suffering an 8-0 setback on the road at fourth-ranked Spring Arbor. Â Ashtyn Webb made nine saves in goal for Point Park in the setback while Nola McGuire had the only shot attempt for the offense.
Scouting Rio Grande: The Red Storm are still looking for their first victory of the season after falling 5-0 at Indiana Wesleyan last Saturday. Â Rio Grande travels to Lawrence Tech on Friday before visiting Lourdes. Â Offensively, Ambar Torres has seven of the Red Storm's 13 total shot attempts. Â In goal, Jayla Brown has played more than 115 minutes, and sports a 4.68 goals against average and a .647, making 11 total saves. Â Emily Hoffman has tallied a 6.98 GAA and a .545 save percentage in just under 65 minutes of work.
Varney Tallies First Goal as a Gray Wolf: Katie Varney found the back of the net in her Lourdes debut against Taylor just 7:54 into the contest. Â The junior transfer from Davenport was no stranger to scoring though, as she tallied three goals as a freshman and another as a sophomore for the Panthers.
Newcomers Not Afraid to Shoot: Lourdes tallied nine total shot attempts in the season opener against the Trojans, with eight of them coming from newcomers. Â
Abigail Mann led the Gray Wolves with three total shots while
Katie Varney had two more. Â
Skyler Crane,
Elaina Hillman, and
Morgan Henkle all attempted shots in their collegiate debuts as well. Â The only returnee with a shot attempt for Lourdes against Taylor was
Erin Caldwell.
Making the Stops: Kerstyn Williams made eight saves for the Gray Wolves to open the season against Taylor last Saturday, the most stops she has made in a contest since registering 10 against Concordia (Mich.) on Oct. 28, 2017. Â The eight saves are tied for the third most in a match in Williams' career.
Record-Tying Home Stand: Lourdes opens the 2019 season with four consecutive home matches, tying the longest homestand in program history. Â They Gray Wolves were also home for four straight contests Sept. 9-20, 2017, when the team posted a 3-0-1 record during the stretch.
Experience in the Lineup: Karlie O'Keefe is the school's career record holder having made 52 career starts. Â Her 52 all-time matches played ranks third in program history. Â In addition,
Lauren Poslaiko is seventh all-time having stepped onto the field 38 times in her four years. Â
Maria Schmidt is tied for sixth with 31 starting assignments early in her junior year.
In the Record Book: Karlie O'Keefe's 12 career goals rank her second on the school's career list, one behind Clare Ciarlino's (2016-2017) all-time mark of 13. Â O'Keefe's 25 total points are third most all-time while her three match-winning goals are tied for third as well. Â O'Keefe ranks second on the all-time shots chart with 81 career attempts.
Reaching the Century Mark: Kerstyn Williams' eight saves against Taylor moved her into second play all-time at Lourdes with 100 career stops. Â Only
Kiley Transit (2016-2018), who had 259 career saves, has more in a Gray Wolf uniform.
Captains Announced: Karlie O'Keefe and
Abby Miller have been named co-captains for the 2019 season. Â Both are appearing in the leadership role for the first time in their careers.
This and That: Lourdes is 12-13-4 all-time in non-conference matches ... eight Gray Wolves made their Lourdes debuts in the season opener, with four earning starting assignments ... Lourdes is 3-0 all-time against opponents from the River States Conference.
