Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play begins this week for Lourdes University. Â The Gray Wolves wrap up a three-match homestand on Wednesday afternoon with a trip to Northwestern Ohio before returning home on Saturday to host Michigan-Dearborn as part of Lourdes' annual pediatric cancer game.
Head Coach Jackie Phillips: In her fifth season on the Lourdes bench,
Jackie Phillips has a 27-42-6 (.400) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as overall as a head coach. Â She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Northwestern Ohio has won all four previous meetings against the Gray Wolves in a series that began Oct. 14, 2015. Â The Racers posted a 1-0 win over Lourdes at Wildcat Stadium last year. Â Northwestern Ohio is 2-0 against the Gray Wolves all-time in Lima, Ohio. Â Lourdes and Michigan-Dearborn have split their two previous meetings dating back to Oct. 24, 2017. Â Last season the Wolverines were 2-1 victors at home. Â The Gray Wolves won the only previous contest at Wildcat Stadium, 5-0, back in 2017.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Katie Varney put Lourdes in front early, but that would be the lone goal of the day for the Gray Wolves as Ohio Christian downed Lourdes 5-1 on Wednesday afternoon. Â
Maddy Hodgson made nine saves between the posts for the Gray Wolves. Â The Trailblazers scored three times before halftime and added a pair of second half goals while outshooting Lourdes 15-12 for the match.
Scouting Northwestern Ohio: The Racers have faced NAIA top-four ranked teams in three of their last four contests and are coming off a 1-0 victory at No. 3 Southeastern on Saturday afternoon. Â Jeweleen Reuille and Kate Agyemang lead Northwestern Ohio with four goals each while Reuille has also added an assist for a team-leading nine points. Â Agnes Stefansdottir has handed out a team-high two assists for the Racers. Â In goal, Lisa Venrath has played a majority of the minutes, sporting a 0.20 goals against average and a .857 save percentage.
Scouting Michigan-Dearborn: The Wolverines have dropped two straight contests after falling 2-0 at Adrian on Saturday afternoon. Â Jenna Rogers, Gabriella Teems, Claire Slamka, and Madison Day have accounted for the four Michigan-Dearborn goals this season while Marta Andreu and Margaret Miller have the assists. Â Jordan Anheuser has played every minute in goal for the Wolverines, posting a 2.50 goals against average and a .778 save percentage.
Lourdes in WHAC Openers: Lourdes is 2-2 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference openers through the Gray Wolves' first four seasons. Â Last year, Lourdes dropped a 2-1 decision at Michigan-Dearborn to begin conference play. Â The Gray Wolves last won a WHAC opener in 2017, a 4-1 decision at Rochester (Mich.). Â Three of Lourdes' previous four conference openers have been played on the road (2-1).
Saturday is Pediatric Cancer Match: Saturday's contest against Michigan-Dearborn is the Gray Wolves' annual Pediatric Cancer game. Â Lourdes will honor alum
Alyssa Swanson, a pediatric survivor herself. Â The Gray Wolves collecting donations at the match and holding a raffle with all contributions going to the Make a Wish Foundation.
Facing Ranked Opponents: Lourdes will face its ninth NAIA top-25 opponent in program history on Wednesday when the Gray Wolves travel to Northwestern Ohio. Â The Gray Wolves are still looking for their first win, and first goal, against a ranked opponent. Â Last season the only top-25 foe the Gray Wolves played was Northwestern Ohio, ranked 25th at the time, and fell 1-0.
Best Start in Program History: Lourdes is off to its best six-match start in program history, entering the week 4-2 overall. Â The previous best start was 3-2-1 in both 2015 and 2017. Â In both previous seasons, the Gray Wolves won their seventh match, improving to 4-2-1.
O'Keefe Sets Two Scoring Records: Karlie O'Keefe's goal against Huntington set a pair of new school records. Â She broke the school's all-time scoring mark with the 14th of her career, surpassing Clare Ciarlino's (2016-2017) total from 2016-2017. Â The goal was also O'Keefe's fifth career match-winning goal, most all-time. Â She broke the old school record of four held by
Jada Foster (2015-2016) and
Remy Houttekier (2015, 2017). Â O'Keefe's 29 total points are second most all-time behind Ciarlino's 34 as she closes in on yet another career record.
Experience in the Lineup: Karlie O'Keefe is the school's career record holder having made 57 career starts. Â Her 57 all-time matches played ranks third in program history, one shy of
Alyssa Swanson's (2015-2018) second place mark of 58 contests. Â In addition,
Lauren Poslaiko has moved into for fifth all-time with
Isabelle Karamuco (2015-2018), having stepped onto the field 43 times in her four years. Â
Maria Schmidt has moved into a tie for third with
Tara Blundell (2015, 2017) with 35 starting assignments midway through her junior year.
Goalkeeping Marks: Kerstyn Williams has moved into second place all-time at Lourdes with 118 career saves. Â Only
Kiley Transit (2016-2018), who had 259 career stops, has more in a Gray Wolf uniform. Â In addition, Williams is second all-time at Lourdes for minutes played in goal, having spent 1602:03 between the posts. Â Williams also has five career shutouts, one behind
Erika Brinkman's (2015) career record of six.
