Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: Lourdes wrapped up a four-match homestand on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves host Madonna for their annual alopecia awareness match. The Gray Wolves then head to Siena Heights on Friday evening before playing their final non-conference match of the year on Saturday at Findlay.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his 10th season on the Lourdes bench,
Greg Reitz has a 189-123 (.606) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In his 11th season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has a 209-159 (.568) career mark. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history and was named WHAC Coach of the Year in 2015.
Series Notes: Madonna leads the all-time series against Lourdes 9-7 dating back to Oct. 8, 2010. Last season, the Crusaders won two of the three matches between the two schools, including a quarterfinal tilt in the WHAC tournament. Lourdes is 1-2 against Madonna inside the Ebeid Rec Center and 3-3 all-time in home matches. Lourdes holds a 12-8 series edge against Siena Heights dating back to Sept. 10, 2010. The two teams split last year's meetings, with each defending its own home court. The Saints are 6-3 all-time against Lourdes in Adrian, Mich. Lourdes and Findlay are meeting for the first time ever on Saturday afternoon.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes opened WHAC play at home on Wednesday evening, falling to Lawrence Tech 25-15, 25-16, 25-22.
Kylee McBride led the Gray Wolves with eight kills and 12 digs. The Gray Wolves picked up their first league win of the year on Friday, downing Michigan-Dearborn 25-17, 25-19, 25-23.
Emily Drenth had 11 kills while
Yasmin Assis tallied 13 digs and had 27 assists. Lourdes closed out the week on Saturday with a 25-14, 25-18, 25-17 triumph at home over Concordia (Mich.). McBride registered 10 kills while
Alli Plasencio had 13 digs.
Scouting Madonna: The Crusaders have won five consecutive matches after downing Michigan-Dearborn in four sets on Saturday. Jodie Kelly leads Madonna with 269 kills and is hitting .276 while Betsy Cook has handed out 597 assists. Olivia Sweeney has served up a team-high 28 aces. Defensively, Sweeney has 230 digs, most on the team, while DJ Sargent has notched 44 blocks, including 10 solos.
Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints snapped a four-match losing skid on Saturday with a four-set victory at home against Rochester (Mich.). Siena Heights travels to Indiana Tech on Wednesday before hosting Lourdes. Janel Ruhlman leads the Saints with 121 kills while Carrigan Gray has handed out 295 assists. Alli Conly leads the team with 13 service aces. Karsyn Wolf has posted a team-high 123 digs while Victoria Nerkowski has registered 25 blocks.
Scouting Findlay: The Oilers enter the week having fallen in straight sets to Illinois-Springfield on Sunday. Findlay hosts Ohio Valley on Friday and Alderson Broaddus Saturday morning before facing Lourdes. Shelby Kin leads the Oilers with 147 kills while Emily Annesser has 333 assists and a team-high 17 service aces. Defensively, Alana Sundermann has tallied 120 digs while Natalie Maras has 31 blocks.
Alopecia Areata Awareness Night: Lourdes will be hosting an Alopecia Awareness Night on Wednesday evening in conjunction with the Gray Wolves' match against Madonna. Alopecia areata is an autoimmune skin disease resulting in the loss of hair on the scalp and elsewhere on the body. Donations for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation will be accepted at an informational table in the lobby of the Ebeid Center throughout the match.
Borges Makes an Impact: Rafa Borges came off the bench late in the second set against Concordia (Mich.) and made a difference at the net. The redshirt-sophomore tallied six blocks in the two sets in which she played while adding a pair of kills. She was involved in half of the Gray Wolves blocks for the match.
Assis Doubles Up: Yasmin Assis recorded her first two double-doubles of the season last week for the Gray Wolves. She recorded her first Lourdes double-double on Wednesday against Lawrence Tech with 17 assists and 10 digs before adding 27 assists and 13 digs versus Michigan-Dearborn.
Wrapping Up Non-Conference Play: Lourdes looks to finish the non-conference portion of the schedule with a .500 record when it makes the trip to Findlay on Saturday. The Gray Wolves enter the match 3-4 outside of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play this season. Lourdes has finished .500 or better each year in non-conference play since 2015.
In the Record Books: Lourdes has several players who rank among the top-10 all-time in program history in various statistical categories.
Angelica Dippold is second all-time with 1,416 career digs. She is also sixth in matches played (96) and fifth in sets played (335).
Sarah Wisser is ranked ninth all-time with 329 career assists.
This and That: Michaela Eisenhauer made her Gray Wolf debut against Michigan-Dearborn on Friday ... Lourdes ranks 45th in NAIA averaging 17.44 digs per set ... the back-to-back sweeps are the first for the Gray Wolves since Oct. 5-6, 2018, also against Michigan-Dearborn and Concordia (Mich.).
