Lourdes Finishes Ninth in First WHAC Jamboree

Final Results

Lourdes completed a suspended first round as well as all of round two on Saturday at the first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference jamboree of the season and finished in ninth place at Chemung Hills Golf Club in Howell, Mich.

The Gray Wolves bounced back from an opening round 413 to post 374 in round two, finishing the event at 787.  Lourdes was 22 shots behind eighth place Cornerstone (381-384) and 39 strokes in front of 10th place Michigan-Dearborn (428-398).  Northwestern Ohio took home top honors, shooting 655 (329-326) over 36 holes, 20 shots better than runner up Indiana Tech (339-336).

"The two-day WHAC event was extremely difficult," head coach Gil Guerrero said afterwards.  "The course played super hard and we had all kinds of problems putting to the difficult hole placements.  After yesterday, I wasn't sure if any of my players would come to play today, but they did and played so much better!  I am very proud of how they responded after yesterday's round."

Friday's first round was suspended with several holes left to complete and the golfers returned Saturday morning to complete the round and play the regularly scheduled one.

Makenzie Fannin (Centerburg, Ohio/Centerburg H.S.), who led Lourdes in round one with a 99, posted a 94 in round two to finish the event at 193, finishing in 35th place.  Skyler Henry (Swartz Creek, Mich./Swartz Creek H.S.) also shot 94 in round two after carding a 101 on day one to post 195.

Tina Kindler (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll H.S.) bounced back from an opening round 106 to fire a 91, the team's best score in round two, and finish the tournament at 197.  Jenne' Venier (Pemberville, Ohio/Eastwood H.S.) improved 19 strokes from one round to the next, carding a 114 before posting 95 to finish at 209.  Lydia Smith (North Baltimore, Ohio/Van Buren H.S.) rounded out the lineup with rounds of 107 and 116 to finish at 223.

Indiana Tech's Carissa Graft and Kim Siercks shared medalist honors after each posted identical rounds of 79 and 82 to finish at 161 on the 5,986-yard, par-72 course.

Lourdes will return to the links on Monday for the second of the three WHAC jamborees.  Round one action begins at 11 a.m. at Twin Lakes Golf Club in Oakland Township, Mich. as Rochester (Mich.) hosts the two-day event.
