Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes continues Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play with a pair of matches. Â The Gray Wolves conclude their two-match homestand on Wednesday as the Gray Wolves entertain Indiana Tech before taking to the road on Saturday evening to face Rochester (Mich.).
Head Coach Jackie Phillips: In her fifth season on the Lourdes bench,
Jackie Phillips has a 28-43-6 (.403) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as overall as a head coach. Â She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Indiana Tech holds a 3-1 series edge dating back to Oct. 10, 2015. Â The last two meetings between the two schools have gone to double overtime, with the Warriors winning both matches as part of their current three-match winning streak in the series. Â Last year, Indiana Tech was a 2-1 victor in Fort Wayne, Ind. Â The two sides have split a pair of matches at Wildcat Stadium. Â Lourdes and Rochester (Mich.) are 1-1-2 against each other in a series that began Sept. 2, 2015. Â Last season the Warriors scored a 3-2 victory over the Gray Wolves at Wildcat Stadium. Â Lourdes leads the series 1-0-1 in Pontiac, Mich.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes opened WHAC play on Wednesday afternoon, suffering a 6-1 setback to fourth-ranked Northwestern Ohio on the road. Â
Chloe Shaffer scored the lone goal for the Gray Wolves while
Kerstyn Williams made nine saves in goal. Â On Saturday, Lourdes rallied with a
Abigail Mann goal with 7:10 to play to force overtime and
Katie Varney notched the match winner with 36 seconds left in the extra session as the Gray Wolves downed Michigan-Dearborn 5-4 at home. Â Mann and Varney both had two goals while
Morgan Henkle added another. Â Williams made eight stops in goal.
Scouting Indiana Tech: The Warriors have dropped four straight matches after falling 3-0 at home to Aquinas on Saturday. Â Megan Clifton leads Indiana Tech with six points on two goals and two assists while Bailey Elliott and Elaina Monroe both have two tallies and a helper. Â In goal, Ally Zenda has played a majority of the minutes, sporting a 1.95 goals against average and a .735 save percentage.
Scouting Rochester (Mich.): The Warriors are still looking for their first victory of the season after falling 11-0 at Northwestern Ohio on Saturday. Â Rochester hosts Siena Heights on Wednesday before entertaining Lourdes. Â Cassidy Kowalski leads the Warriors with four goals and nine points while Taryn Ryan has added a pair of goals. Â Megan Swanker has played most of the minutes in goal for Rochester ,sporting a 3.74 goals against average and a .747 save mark.
A Rare Overtime Win: Lourdes had won just one prior overtime match in 14 tries before Saturday's extra session victory over Michigan-Dearborn. Â The Gray Wolves entered the contest 1-7-6 all-time in overtime, with the lone other victory coming against Lawrence Tech, 2-1, on Oct. 20, 2017. Â Last season Lourdes went 0-2-2 when playing beyond 90 minutes.
Mann Matches School Mark for Points in a Match: With two goals and two assists against Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday,
Abigail Mann tied the school's single match record with six points. Â Clare Ciarlino and
Isabelle Karamuco both registered six point matches on Sept. 2, 2016 in a victory over Andrews.
Multi-Goal Efforts: Both
Abigail Mann and
Katie Varney scored twice in the victory over Michigan-Dearborn. Â For Mann it was her second collegiate multi-goal effort after scoring twice earlier this season against Rio Grande on Sept. 1. Â Varney's two goals marked the first multi-goal effort as a Gray Wolf, but the junior also had two goals as a freshman while playing for Davenport against Saint Francis (Ill.).Â
Second Best Start in Program History: Lourdes is off to its second best start in program history, entering the week 5-3 overall. Â Only the 2017 squad posted a better record through eight contests, starting the year 5-2-1 on the way to an 8-8-2 campaign. Â With a victory on Wednesday, the Gray Wolves would better the start of 2017 though, as that team dropped its next three contests.
Historic Goal: Chloe Shaffer's tally at Northwestern Ohio last Wednesday marked the first time the Gray Wolves had found the back of the net against a NAIA top-25 foe in program history. Â The match was the ninth all-time for Lourdes against a nationally ranked opponent.
Experience in the Lineup: Karlie O'Keefe is the school's career record holder having made 59 career starts, 22 more than any other player in program history. Â Her 59 all-time matches played ranks second in program history, two shy of
Helena Rammal's (2015-2018) record of 61 starts. Â In addition,
Lauren Poslaiko has moved into for fourth all-time with, having stepped onto the field 45 times in her four years. Â Poslaiko and
Maria Schmidt have moved into a tie for second behind O'Keefe with 37 career starting assignments.
Goalkeeping Marks: Kerstyn Williams has moved into second place all-time at Lourdes with 135 career saves. Â Only
Kiley Transit (2016-2018), who had 259 career stops, has more in a Gray Wolf uniform. Â In addition, Williams is second all-time at Lourdes for minutes played in goal, having spent 1719:27 between the posts in three seasons. Â Williams also has five career shutouts, one behind
Erika Brinkman's (2015) career record of six.
