Hosting the Lourdes Invitational on Wednesday at The Legacy Golf Club in Ottawa Lake, Mich., the Gray Wolves had several players post collegiate best rounds on their home course.
Â
As a team, Lourdes finished in seventh place with a total of 404. Madonna won the title at 329, one shot ahead of Siena Heights.
Â
"We were missing two of our top players today, so I mixed and matched our lineup today," head coach
Gil Guerrero said afterwards. "Our team score is not indicative of what we were capable of shooting had we put together our regular lineup. I was very proud of how hard all of the ladies competed today."
Â
Skyler Henry (Swartz Creek, Mich./Swartz Creek H.S.) shot the low round of the day for the Gray Wolves', firing an 83, five shots better than her previous collegiate best. Henry finished seventh overall on the afternoon.Â
Tina Kindler (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll H.S.), making just her second collegiate start, tied for ninth with her round of 85.
Â
Lydia Quinn (Bloomington, Ind./South H.S.) added a 90 for Lourdes, her best round as a collegiate golfer while
Lydia Smith (North Baltimore, Ohio/Van Buren H.S.) fired a 96 over the 6,049-yard, par-72 layout.Â
Kate Woodbury (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) carded a round of 101.
Â
Morgan Altenbach (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee H.S.) made her collegiate debut shooting 104 while
Baylee Van Brunt (Onsted, Mich./Onsted H.S.) posted a round of 106.Â
Shannon White (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston H.S.) and
Delanie Notheis (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) each added scores of 114 to close out the Lourdes lineup.
Â
Madonna's Kristin Szabelski was the tournament medalist with a round of 75.
Â
Lourdes will now have 12 days off before competing at the Wolverine & Cardinal Classic on Sept. 16. The event will be held at Washtenaw Country Club in Ypsilanti, Mich.
