The Lourdes University women's tennis program began their inaugural season on Wednesday at the Dix Tennis Facility in Defiance, Ohio, falling 8-1 to Ohio Northern and 6-3 to Defiance.
Lourdes started slowly in doubles action against Ohio Northern, falling 8-0 at both the first and second spots before moving to singles.
Annsley Mann (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) registered the first point in program history with a victory at number one singles. The freshman won the opening set 6-2 before her opponent retired.
The Polar Bears won at second through fourth singles in straight sets to complete their victory.
In the evening match against host Defiance, the Gray Wolves kept things tight throughout. Mann teamed with
Kylie Krupp (Sylvania, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) for an 8-3 victory at number one doubles for the team's first doubles triumph.
Mann made it a perfect 2-for-2 on the day with a three-set win at first singles, registering a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (3) victory at the top spot.
Niki Polce (New Boston, Mich./Huron H.S.) also picked up a win at the third spot, downing her opponent 1-6, 7-5, 1-0 (6). Krupp forced a match tie-break for the third set at the second spot, before falling 7-6 (5), 0-6, 1-0 (7).
Lourdes (0-2) will have 10 days off before returning to action on Sept. 14. The Gray Wolves will travel to Marion, Ind. to face Indiana Wesleyan with the first serve set for 3 p.m. at the Sutter Tennis Center.
