Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: Lourdes plays its final matches prior to the start of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action this weekend, hosting its annual Gray Wolf Invitational. Â Lourdes will entertain Shawnee State and Grace on Friday before facing West Virginia Tech in the tournament finale on Saturday.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his 10th season on the Lourdes bench,
Greg Reitz has a 184-121 (.603) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. Â In his 11th season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has a 204-156 (.567) career mark. Â He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history and was named WHAC Coach of the Year in 2015.
Series Notes: Lourdes will be meeting both Shawnee State and West Virginia Tech for the first time this weekend. Â Grace holds a 2-0 all-time advantage against the Gray Wolves in a series that began Aug. 23, 2013. Â The Lancers won the initial meeting in three sets in Dearborn, Mich. before downing Lourdes 3-1 on Aug. 25, 2017 in Winona Lake, Ind.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes dropped all four contests at the GoSarpy.com Labor Day Classic last weekend. Â The Gray Wolves began the weekend falling 25-14, 25-9, 25-13 to host Bellevue on Thursday night. Â
Kylee McBride led the Gray Wolves with seven kills. Â On Friday, Ottawa (Kan.) defeated Lourdes 25-21, 25-14, 25-21 despite 10 kills from McBride. Â Morningside downed the Gray Wolves Friday evening 25-14, 25-22, 25-19 with McBride again leading the way with 12 kills. Â McBride had 12 more kills on Saturday against Evangel, but the Gray Wolves fell 25-21, 25-21, 25-10.
Scouting Shawnee State: The Bears enter the week having won two straight matches after defeating Bluefield and Rio Grande in straight sets each last Saturday. Â Shawnee State hosts Lindsey Wilson on Wednesday before visiting the Gray Wolf Invitational. Â Macie Rhoads leads the Beards with 118 kills and is hitting .262 on the season while Maria Kolinoff has handed out 210 assists. Â Emilee Cochran has a team-high 12 service aces. Â Defensively, Stacia Martin leads Shawnee State with 125 digs while Isabella Gill has registered 17 total blocks.
Scouting Grace: The Lancers enter the weekend having dropped six straight matches after falling in four sets at Mount Vernon Nazarene on Tuesday night in the team's Crossroads League opener. Â Anna Frey leads Grace with 108 kills on the year while Alexa Hill has handed out 290 assists. Â Caroline Mayer has a team-best six service aces. Â Gina Novotny leads the Lancers defensively with 130 digs while Makayla Bell has registered 31 blocks.
Scouting West Virginia Tech: The Golden Bears went 3-1 at last weekend's tournament, but had its four-match winning streak snapped in the finale with a five-set loss to Point Park. Â Katelyn Byrd has a team-high 89 kills while Carolina Bologna is hitting .365 thus far this season. Â Konstantina Pateli has dished out 293 assists for West Virginia Tech while adding 16 service aces. Â Defensively, Sawyer Hawgood has tallied 179 digs while Bologna has 30 blocks, including eight solos.
Gray Wolves in Home Openers: Lourdes is 8-1 all-time in home openers, including 3-0 inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center. The Gray Wolves have won six consecutive home openers, with the lone loss coming in 2012 to 17th-ranked Madonna. Â In last year's first home match, Lourdes scored a 3-1 victory over Taylor in the Gray Wolf Invitational.
McBride Paces the Offense: Kylee McBride led the Lourdes offense in kills in all four matches last weekend in her first action on the collegiate level. Â The freshman finished the tournament with 41 total kills, an average of 3.42 per set, and tallied double figure kills in each of the final three matches.
Getting Defensive: Alli Plasencio had at least nine digs in all four contests last weekend for Lourdes, averaging 4.83 digs per set. Â The sophomore set a career-high with 25 digs against Morningside in the third of the four contests on the weekend.
In the Record Books: Lourdes has several players who rank among the top-10 all-time in program history in various statistical categories. Â
Angelica Dippold is second all-time with 1,308 career digs and is sixth in both matches played (90) and sets played (312). Â
Sarah Wisser enters the weekend ranked ninth all-time with 329 career assists.
Mixing Up Lineups: Lourdes had 18 of the 20 players on its roster see action during the opening weekend, with 17 players appearing in at least three of the 12 sets. Â Only
