Complete PDF Notes
Lourdes (0-4, 0-3 WHAC)
Match #4: Saturday, October 17, 3 p.m. EDT
at Concordia (Mich.) (2-1, 2-1 WHAC)
Cardinals Stadium - Ann Arbor, Mich.

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes wraps up the road portion of the 2020 fall season on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. to face Concordia (Mich.).  Lourdes is looking for its first victory of the season.

Head Coach Jackie Phillips: In her sixth season on the Lourdes bench, Jackie Phillips has a 31-54-6 (.374) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as overall as a head coach.  She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Concordia (Mich.) holds a slim 3-2 all-time series edge against Lourdes in a series that began Oct. 17, 2015.  The Cardinals have won two straight in the series after defeating the Gray Wolves 2-1 in Ann Arbor, Mich. last season.  The Gray Wolves last win in the series was a 1-0 triumph at Wildcat Stadium during the 2017 campaign.  Concordia is 2-1 against Lourdes all-time in Ann Arbor.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Lawrence Tech scored the first three goals of the match last Saturday on the way to a 3-1 victory over the Gray Wolves in Southfield, Mich.  Katie Varney put Lourdes on the scoreboard in the 41st minute with Chloe Nofziger drawing the assist.  Lily Yoder made one first half save in goal while Kerstyn Williams made five stops over the final 45 minutes.

Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The Cardinals enter the match following a 3-2 victory at Siena Heights last Saturday.  Samantha Golchuk leads Concordia in scoring, having tallied seven goals and 15 total points while Kendra Lewis has added two goals and two assists for six points.  Amay Ciszewski and Allison Lentz also share the team lead with Lewis with two helpers each.  Concordia has scored 15 times in three matches.  In goal, Anna Roman has played 167 minutes sporting a 1.62 goals against average and a .667 save percentage while Hayley Jacobson has a 1.65 GAA and a .333 save mark in 109 minutes.

Breaking a Long Scoreless Streak: When Katie Varney found the back of the net at the 40:34 mark of the first half last Saturday it marked the first goal of the season for the Gray Wolves.  In fact, it was the first tally for Lourdes since Nov. 6, 2019 when Abigail Mann scored on an assist from Varney at Northwestern Ohio in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference quarterfinals last season.  The scoreless span was 338:21 of playing time.

First Collegiate Point: Chloe Nofziger drew the assist on Katie Varney's goal last week at Lawrence Tech.  For the freshman, the assist marked her first collegiate point in her fourth game overall with the Gray Wolves.

Shot Leaders: While Lourdes has found the back of the net just once this season, the Gray Wolves are outshooting their opposition 53-50 overall.  Shots on goal are even 25-25.  Katie Varney leads the way with eight total shots while Maddy Hodgson and Chloe Shaffer have seven attempts each.  A total of 16 different Gray Wolves have rifled at least one attempt toward net.

Nearing School Records: Kerstyn Williams continues to move closer to several school records in goal.  The senior goalkeeper ranks second in program history for matches played in goal (39), minutes played in goal (2944:26), and saves (243).  Kiley Transit (2016-2018) holds all three of those records.  Williams is tied for the school mark with Transit with six shutouts while her career save percentage of .799 and goals against average of 1.87 are program records.

In the Record Book: With her goal Saturday, Katie Varney moved into a tie with Abigail Mann for fifth place all-time at Lourdes with six career goals.  Mann also ranks fourth on the career list with six assists and 18 total points.  Erin Caldwell is seventh with five career goals while Varney also ranks sixth with four assists.  Varney is sixth with 16 career points while Caldwell is eighth on the points list with 12.

Lots of Appearances: Maria Schmidt ranks second all-time at Lourdes with 49 starts wearing the terra cotta and black.  She trails just Karlie O'Keefe (2016-2019) who started 68 contests during her time with the Gray Wolves.  Schmidt also ranks fifth in all-time appearances with 50, three behind Lauren Poslaiko (2016-2019) who is fourth having played in 53 contests.  Erin Caldwell has tied Tara Blundell (2015, 2017) for fifth all-time with 35 starts in her career.
Captains: Kerstyn Williams, Maddy Hodgson, and Olivia Pomponio will serve as the team's tri-captains in 2020.  All three are in their first season in the leadership role.

A Different Look This Season: Due to COVID-19, five schools in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference have opted to not play soccer this fall, moving all of their matches to the spring.  The remaining seven league schools will play a split season, competing in five WHAC matches in the fall and six in the spring.  The WHAC tournament and NAIA National Championships will also take place in the spring.

A Look Ahead to Spring: When the Gray Wolves resume play in the spring, they will host Northwestern Ohio and Cleary in WHAC play while traveling to Indiana Tech, Aquinas, and Madonna.  Lourdes would also travel to Michigan-Dearborn if they resume athletic competition by March.

This and That: Lourdes has played 23 different players already this season ... the Gray Wolves are 2-8-6 all-time in overtime matches ... Lourdes is 11-30-3 all-time on the road ... the Gray Wolves are looking to snap a 11-match losing skid dating back to last season ... Lourdes has taken 28 corner kicks while yielding just 14 so far this year.
