Lourdes (0-0, 0-0 WHAC)
Match #1: Wednesday, September 23, 3 p.m. EDT
vs. Ohio Christian (0-1, 0-1 RSC)
Wildcat Stadium - Sylvania, Ohio

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: After two cancellations to begin 2020, Lourdes University opens its sixth season of women's soccer on Wednesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Ohio Christian at Wildcat Stadium.  The match will be the lone non-conference tilt for the Gray Wolves prior to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play.

On the Air: Wednesday's game against Ohio Christian will be broadcast live on BCSN as part of Buckeye Broadband.  It will re-air on Thursday at 6 p.m., Friday at 2 p.m., and Saturday at 8 p.m.  BCSN2 will show the game on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. and Friday at 9 a.m.

Head Coach Jackie (Donovan) Phillips: In her sixth season on the Lourdes bench, Jackie Phillips has a 31-50-6 (.391) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as overall as a head coach.  She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Lourdes and Ohio Christian are meeting for the fifth time on Wednesday afternoon in a series that dates back to Sept. 15, 2018, with each team winning one match.  The Gray Wolves were 1-0 victors at Wildcat Stadium in the first contest between the two schools while the Trailblazers won last year's match 5-1 in Circleville, Ohio.

Wrapping Up 2019: Lourdes finished the 2019 season with an 8-10 record overall.  The Gray Wolves finished in eight place in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference with a 4-7 mark.  Lourdes fell to Northwestern Ohio on the road 5-1 in the WHAC tournament quarterfinals.

Scouting Ohio Christian: The Trailblazers opened their 2020 season on Saturday with a 3-1 setback at home against Rio Grande.  Danyelle Forrester scored the lone Ohio Christian goal with Mylie Lafountaine drawing the assist.  Danica Hanschu went the distance in goal, making six saves in the opener.  Ohio Christian finished 2019 with a 10-6-2 record overall and a 6-2-2 mark in the River States Conference, placing third.

Lourdes in Season Openers: Lourdes is 2-2-1 all-time in season openers after falling to Taylor 4-1 at home to begin the 2019 campaign.  The Gray Wolves are 1-2 when beginning in the season at home.  Both season-opening victories have come in even years (2016 vs. Mount Vernon Nazarene 1-0, 2018 at La Roche 4-0).

Gray Wolves at Home: Lourdes is 2-3 all-time in home openers.  The Gray Wolves have dropped three straight home openers after falling to Taylor 4-1 in the first home match of the 2019 season.  All-time, Lourdes sports a 20-22-3 record at Wildcat Stadium through five seasons.

Latest Start Ever: Due to the NAIA pushing the start date back to Sept. 5 for all fall sports, this marks the latest Lourdes has ever started a women's soccer season and just the second time the year has kicked off in September.  The previous latest starting date was Sept. 2 in the inaugural 2015 season.

2019 Award Winners: Elaina Hillman and Abigail Mann were both named to the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference All-Newcomer Team last season.  Hillman was the lone Gray Wolf to start all 18 matches and handed out one assist while Mann led Lourdes in scoring with six goals and six assists for 18 points.

Other Top Returning Scorers: In addition to Abigail Mann returning to the roster this season, Lourdes also returns Katie Varney and Chloe Shaffer who finished second and third on the squad in points in 2019.  Varney tallied five goals and four assists for 14 points while Shaffer had three goals and a helper for seven points as a rookie.

Williams Returns in Net: Kerstyn Williams returns for her senior season in goal for the Gray Wolves.  Through 36 career appearances between the posts, Williams sports a 1.96 career goals against average and a .794 career save percentage while notching six shutouts.

Experience Returning: Maria Schmidt enters the 2020 season ranked fifth on the school's career matches played list with 46 appearances as a Gray Wolf.  She is seven appearances shy of matching Lauren Poslaiko (2016-2019) for fourth on the charts.  Schmidt also ranks second all-time at Lourdes with 45 career starts.  The senior trails just Karlie O'Keefe (2016-2019) who drew 68 starting assignments at Lourdes.  Erin Caldwell enters her junior year tied with Hayley Wagner (2015-2016) for eighth with 31 career starts.

In the Record Book: In just one season, Abigail Mann has moved into fifth place all-time at Lourdes with six career goals.  She also ranks fourth on the career list with six assists and 18 total points.  Erin Caldwell and Katie Varney are tied for sixth with five career goals while Varney also ranks sixth with four assists.  Varney is sixth with 14 career points while Caldwell is eighth on the points list with 12.

Captains: Kerstyn Williams, Maddy Hodgson, and Olivia Pomponio will serve as the team's tri-captains in 2020.  All three are in their first season in the leadership role.

A Different Look This Season: Due to COVID-19, four schools in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference have opted to not play soccer this fall, moving all of their matches to the spring.  The remaining eight league schools will play a split season, competing in five WHAC matches in the fall and six in the spring.  The WHAC tournament and NAIA National Championships will also take place in the spring.

This and That: Lourdes is 16-15-4 all-time in non-conference matches ... the Gray Wolves have never played at a neutral site in program history ... 60 different players have stepped onto the field through the program's first five seasons.
