Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: The second half of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play begins this week for Lourdes as the Gray Wolves open a four-match homestand. Lourdes entertains first place Indiana Tech on Wednesday followed by matches with Madonna and Michigan-Dearborn respectively.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his 12th season on the Lourdes bench,
Greg Reitz has a 210-157 (.572) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In his 14th season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has a 230-192 (.545) career mark. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history and was named WHAC Coach of the Year in 2015.
Series Notes: Indiana Tech leads the all-time series against Lourdes 10-9 dating back to Oct. 1, 2010. The Warriors have won five straight meetings between the two schools after posting a four-set victory in Fort Wayne, Ind. on Sept. 8. The series is tied 2-2 inside the Ebeid Rec Center. Madonna holds a 12-10 series edge against the Gray Wolves going back to Oct. 8, 2010. The Crusaders have won two straight contests after posting a straight sets triumph on Sept. 18 in Livonia, Mich. Lourdes holds a 3-2 advantage inside the Ebeid Rec Center. Lourdes holds a 14-3 all-time edge against Michigan-Dearborn in a series that began Aug. 28, 2010. The Wolverines snapped the Gray Wolves' 13 match series win streak on Sept. 17 in Dearborn, Mich. though, with a four-set victory. Lourdes is 3-0 against Michigan-Dearborn in the Ebeid Rec Center.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Aquinas swept Lourdes on Wednesday (Oct. 6) 25-23, 25-18, 25-14 in the Ebeid Rec Center.
Kylee McBride had a team-high eight kills while
Alli Plasencio had 18 digs for the Gray Wolves. On Friday, Lourdes downed Roosevelt 25-14, 25-18, 26-24 in a neutral site match.
McKenna Hall had seven kills and 13 digs to lead Lourdes. Saturday the Gray Wolves downed Asbury 25-19, 25-14, 25-16 behind 11 kills and 12 digs from
Abby Gentile. Lourdes then fell 19-25, 25-12, 28-26, 25-16 at Mount Vernon Nazarene in the team's second match. Gentile had 15 kills and 18 digs against the Cougars.
Scouting Indiana Tech: The Warriors have won 11 straight matches after defeating Goshen in four sets and sweeping Trinity Christian on Saturday (Oct. 9). Noelle VanOort leads Indiana Tech with 250 kills and 46 service aces while Madelyn Omo is hitting .310. Andrea Schriver has handed out 563 assists. Defensively, Jacey Blust has 418 digs while Omo has recorded 83 blocks.
Scouting Madonna: The Crusaders enter the week after downing Aquinas in straight sets on Saturday (Oct. 9) and face Michigan-Dearborn on Wednesday before heading to Lourdes. Jodie Kelly has 264 kills on the year and is hitting .235 while Jordyn Dawson has handed out a team-high 388 assists. Olivia Sweeney has a team-leading 23 service aces. Defensively, Olivia Sweeney has tallied 311 digs while Jaeda Porter has 50 blocks.
Scouting Michigan-Dearborn: The Wolverines head into the week following a Saturday split in which they defeated Lincoln (Ill.) in three sets before falling to Marian in straight sets. Michigan-Dearborn heads to Madonna on Wednesday and hosts Siena Heights on Friday before visiting Lourdes. Gina Giacomini paces the Wolverines with 131 kills while Regan Rose has a team-high 285 assists. Kenzie Mertz has 265 digs while Regan Sliwinski has 64 blocks.
Serving Strong: The Gray Wolves' have recorded 102 service aces this season, three more than their opponents. However, the biggest difference in serving is in errors, where Lourdes has committed just 116 while the opposition has 150 service miscues.
Abby Gentile and
Lydia Landoll lead Lourdes with 14 aces each, with six total Gray Wolves posting double figure ace totals overall.
Running the Offense: Katey Stakolich has become the main setter for Lourdes this season. The freshman has handed out 399 assists (7.25/set) while adding 158 digs (2.87/set). She has also tallied 12 service aces and been in on 11 blocks. Stakolich has six double-doubles on the year and just handed out a career-high 48 assists at Mount Vernon Nazarene on Saturday.
Putting Down Kills: Abby Gentile and
Kylee McBride has led the way offensively for the Gray Wolves. Gentile, a freshman, as a team-high 124 kills while McBride is set with 109. McBride leads the Gray Wolves with a 2.42 kills per set average.
On the Block: Cammy Smith has been involved in 34 of the Gray Wolves' 89 blocks this season. She now has 113 for her career, sixth most in program history.
Michaela Eisenhauer is also on the career blocks chart, having rejected 106 opponent shots, eighth most all-time at Lourdes.
Plasencio All Over the Record Books: Alli Plasencio enters the week ranked third in program history with 1,293 career digs. She is 312 behind Angelica Dippold (2016-2019) for second all-time. Plasencio also is tied with Hannah Thompson (2010-2011) and Stephanie Richards (2013-216) for fourth on the career ace charts with 81. Plasencio ranks sixth in school history having appeared in 336 sets all-time, on behind Richards' fifth place total. Plasencio is seventh all-time at Lourdes having appeared in 92 career matches.
This and That: Alli Plasencio is the only Gray Wolf to play all 66 sets this season ... Lourdes is 2-2 at home this season and 43-20 all-time inside the Ebeid Rec Center entering this homestand.
