Women's Soccer Carries Five-Match Unbeaten Streak Into the Week

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Unbeaten (3-0-2) in its last five matches, Lourdes looks to continue its momentum on Wednesday, hosting Madonna to wrap up a brief two-match homestand.  The Gray Wolves then take to the road for four of its final five contests of the regular season, beginning on Saturday at Rochester (Mich.).

Head Coach Jackie Phillips: In her seventh season on the Lourdes bench, Jackie Phillips has a 42-62-11 (.413) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as overall as a head coach.  She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Madonna leads the all-time series against Lourdes 6-0-1 dating back to Sept. 30, 2015.  The Crusaders won last season's meeting 3-1 in Livonia, Mich.  The Gray Wolves are 0-3 against Madonna all-time at Wildcat Stadium.  Lourdes holds a 3-1-2 advantage all-time against Rochester (Mich.) dating back to Sept. 2, 2015.  The Gray Wolves have won two straight matches from the Warriors after posting a 4-0 victory on March 13, 2021 at Wildcat Stadium.  Lourdes is 2-0-1 on Rochester's home pitch.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Brynn McGarvey scored twice and Kayla Dillinger had two assists as Lourdes defeated Cleary 5-0 on the road on Wednesday (Oct. 6).  Abigail Mann and Erika Turk each added a goal and an assist.  Lily Yoder made five saves in goal to earn the clean sheet.  On Saturday, Lourdes battled 12th-ranked Aquinas to a 1-1 double overtime draw.  Mann put the Gray Wolves in front with a penalty kick in the seventh minute while the Saints answered just 47 seconds later with one of their own.  Emmy Rodger made 11 saves in goal for the Gray Wolves in the tie.

Scouting Madonna: The Crusaders remained undefeated on the season Saturday with a 4-0 victory over Rochester (Mich.) at home for the team's 11th straight victory.  Megan Verant leads Madonna in scoring with 12 goals and 29 points while Abby Werthman has added 11 goals and 26 points.  Grace Thomas leads the team with seven assists.  In goal, Brooke Bruletti has not allowed a goal in 450 minutes of action while notching four shutouts and Alex Thomas sports a 0.40 goals against average and a .778 save percentage in the same amount of time.

Scouting Rochester (Mich.): The Warriors are still looking for their first victory of the season after falling 4-0 at Madonna on Saturday.  Isabella Ames and Kirsten Schapman have scored the two Rochester goals this season.  Megan Swanker has played the majority of minutes between the posts for the Warriors.

National Honor: Emmy Rodger was named the NAIA National Defensively Player of the Week after her career-high 11 saves against Aquinas on Saturday.  Rodger yielded just one penalty kick goal while also stopping a penalty kick.

WHAC Awards: In addition to national Defensive Player of the Week honors, Rodger also was named the WHAC Defensive Player of the Week.  Abigial Mann also garnered league honors, as she was named the WHAC Offensive Player of the Week.  Mann scored a goal and had an assist on the match-winner at Cleary before scoring the Gray Wolves' lone tally in the draw with Aquinas.

Mann Tied for All-Time Scoring Lead: Abigail Mann matched the Lourdes record with her 14th career goal against Aquinas, equalling the total set by Karlie O'Keefe (2016-2019).  Mann also broke the school's career points mark, and now has 36, passing Clare Ciarlino's (2016-2017) total of 34.  Mann's eight assists are one shy of Tori Koontz's (2016-2017) school mark of nine.

A Program First: Lourdes earned its first result ever against a NAIA top-25 opponent on Saturday with its 1-1 draw against #12 Aquinas.  The Gray Wolves entered the match 0-13 against ranked foes all-time.  

Stingy Defense: Lourdes has yielded just eight goals in 1,160 minutes of action this season, a goals against average of 0.62.  The Gray Wolves have not conceded more than one goal in a match all year.  Emmy Rodger and Lily Yoder each have two shutouts to their credit on the season.

A Scoring Race: Abigail Mann scored against both Cleary and Aquinas last week while Brynn McGarvey tallied a pair of goals against Cleary.  Chloe Shaffer also had a goal against the Cougars as the trio all share the team lead in scoring on the season now with four goals each.

Most Ties in a Season: Lourdes entered the 2021 season having six draws total in the first six season's of the program.  The Gray Wolves have registered five already in the first 12 matches of this season.  The most ties in a year prior to this season were two in both 2017 and 2018. 

Gray Wolves Tabbed Ninth in WHAC Preseason Poll: Lourdes was selected to finish in ninth place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches.  The Gray Wolves were picked just behind eighth place Indiana Tech.  Aquinas was chosen to win the league crown.

Captains: Kerstyn Williams, and Olivia Pomponio are serving as the team's co-captains in 2021.  Both served in the leadership role in 2020 as well.

This and That: Lourdes is outshooting its opponents 167-126 this season ... 21 different Gray Wolves have started at least one match this season ... only Abigail Mann and Olivia Pomponio have started every contest this year ... 12 different Lourdes players have registered at least one point.
