Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: A busy, and rescheduled week, awaits the Lourdes women's volleyball squad. Â The Gray Wolves will play a make-up match at home against Aquinas on Wednesday before heading to Mount Vernon Nazarene on Friday and Saturday for a quad event in which Lourdes will face Roosevelt and Asbury in addition to the host Cougars.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his 12th season on the Lourdes bench,
Greg Reitz has a 208-155 (.573) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. Â In his 14th season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has a 228-190 (.545) career mark. Â He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history and was named WHAC Coach of the Year in 2015.
Series Notes: Aquinas holds an 11-8 series edge against Lourdes dating back to Oct. 7, 2011. Â The Saints swept last season's meetings, winning in five sets in the Ebeid Rec Center and in straight sets in Grand Rapids, Mich. Â Lourdes is 4-2 all-time against Aquinas in the Ebeid Rec Center. Â The Gray Wolves won the only previous meeting against Roosevelt, a straight sets decision on Sept. 2, 2011 in Chicago, Ill. Â Asbury is 2-0 all-time against Lourdes in a series that began Sept. 16, 2011. Â The Eagles won the matches on back-to-back days at Tam-o-Shanter, both in straight sets. Â Mount Vernon Nazarene is 2-1 versus Lourdes going back to Oct. 23, 2010. Â The Gray Wolves won the last meeting between the schools on Dec. 3, 2015 in four sets in the NAIA National Championships in Sioux City, Iowa. Â This is the first meeting ever in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes needed five sets on Wednesday (Sept. 29) to register a 25-22, 25-27, 25-16, 19-25, 15-9 victory at Lawrence Tech. Â
Vanessa Villarreal recorded 14 kills and 11 digs while
Alli Plasencio had a match-high 29 digs. Â On Friday (Oct. 1), Concordia (Mich.) swept the Gray Wolves 25-19, 25-17, 25-19 in the Ebeid Rec Center. Â
Kylee McBride paced Lourdes with eight kills while Plasencio had 13 digs. Â The Gray Wolves stepped out of WHAC play on Saturday, falling at Bethel (Ind.) 25-14, 21-25, 25-17, 25-18. Â
Abby Gentile had 14 kills while
Katey Stakolich notched 36 assists and 15 digs.
Scouting Aquinas: The Saints enter the week following a four-set win at Lawrence Tech on Saturday. Â Aquinas hosts Michigan-Dearborn on Tuesday before visiting Lourdes. Â Jackie Rozell leads the team with 183 kills while Abbi Perkins is hitting .275. Â Chloe Mitchell has 425 assists while Kenzi Dobosiewicz has a team-high 21 service aces. Â Defensively, Adrien Yondo has 220 digs and Emily Jones has notched 75 blocks.
Scouting Roosevelt: The Lakers enter the week having dropped six straight matches after a five-set loss to Governors State on Sept. 21. Â Roosevelt travels to Trinity International and Cardinal Stritch prior to facing the Gray Wolves. Â Viktoria Marysheva leads the team with 136 kills while Kara Sleeper is hitting .268. Â Jessa Henry has a team-high 355 assists and 23 aces. Â On defense, Grace Morrill has 203 digs while Sleeper has 44 blocks.
Scouting Asbury: The Eagles have won two straight after downing West Virginia Tech on Saturday. Â Asbury faces Centre on Wednesday and Mount Vernon Nazarene on Friday prior to playing Lourdes. Â Emma Grace Gray has a team-high 71 kills while Lindsey Castle has a team-high 112 assists. Â Madi Bryant has recorded 17 aces. Â Defensively, Sydney Fleshood has 103 digs and Bethany Fye has 36 blocks.
Scouting Mount Vernon Nazarene: The Cougars have won two straight after downing Grace in four sets on Sept. 29. Â Mount Vernon Nazarene plays three more times prior to the Gray Wolves. Â Nicole Winkler has 294 kills, is hitting .254, and has 25 aces while Paige Brenner has 764 assists. Â Defensively, Ruby Ellie has 434 digs while Tory Small has 50 blocks, including 17 solos.
Schedule Change: The Gray Wolves' scheduled match against Rochester (Mich.) has been postponed. Â Lourdes will now host Aquinas on that evening in a match up of a Sept. 25 postponement.
On the Block: Lourdes has tallied 61 blocks this season. Â
Cammy Smith has been involved in 22 rejections while
Macey Zinser has been involved in 21 more.Â
Racking Up Double-Doubles: Katey Stakolich has three double-doubles in her last four matches and five on the season. Â She leads the Gray Wolves averaging .64 assists per set while ranking second on the team with 2.79 digs per stanza.
Plasencio All Over the Record Books: Alli Plasencio enters the week ranked third in program history with 1,1219 career digs. Â She is 398 behind Angelica Dippold (2016-2019) for second all-time. Â Plasencio also is tied with Michi Jiminez (2012-2015) for seventh on the career ace charts with 78. Â Plasencio ranks sixth in school history having appeared in 323 sets all-time, 14 behind Stephanie Richards' (2013-2016) fifth place total. Â Plasencio is seventh all-time at Lourdes having appeared in 88 career matches.
This and That: Alli Plasencio is the only Gray Wolf to play all 53 sets this season ... opponents have had a higher hitting percentage thank Lourdes in 13 of the 14 matches ... the Gray Wolves are 2-4 in non-conference action heading into the final three non-league tilts this weekend.
