Complete PDF Notes
Lourdes (1-5, 0-4 WHAC)
Match #7: Friday, February 12, 11:30 a.m. EST
vs. Grace (10-4-1, 5-2-1 CL)
Total Sports - Rossford, Ohio

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes remains indoors on Friday morning as the Gray Wolves have added a match against Grace at Total Sports in Rossford.  Lourdes has had its contest at Thomas More, which was slated for Saturday, postponed due to weather.

Head Coach Jackie Phillips: In her sixth season on the Lourdes bench, Jackie Phillips has a 32-55-6 (.376) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as overall as a head coach.  She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Lourdes and Grace are meeting on the pitch for the first time ever in women's soccer on Friday.

Wrapping Up Last Time Out: Lourdes tallied a pair of goals in the first half and added one final insurance tally with six minutes remaining on Monday as the Gray Wolves downed Holy Cross (Ind.) 3-0 at Total Sports in their spring debut.  Katie Varney tallied the match-winner while Chloe Shaffer added a goal and an assist.  Jayla Musselman also had a tally and a helper as Lourdes posted its first win of the season.  Kerstyn Williams made six saves to earn the clean sheet.

Scouting Grace: The Lancers are opening their spring slate after playing 15 games during the fall.  Grace advanced to the Crossroads League championship match before falling to Marian 2-0.  JJ Aalbue leads Grace with seven goals and four assists for 18 total points while Alexis Larimore has also scored seven times.  Victoria Lucido has handed out a team-leading seven assists and has 17 points on the year.  In goal, Bethany Blackwood has played every minute for the Lancers, sporting a 0.91 goals against average and an .813 save percentage.

Williams Sets Career Shutout Mark: Kerstyn Williams recorded her first shutout of the season, and seventh of her career, against Holy Cross (Ind.) to set the school's all-time clean sheet record.  She passes Erika Brinkman (2015) who had six shutouts for the Gray Wolves.  Williams had to save a penalty kick with one second remaining in the match to preserve the shutout against the Saints on Monday.

Playing Indoors: Lourdes won its first match of the season indoors at Total Sports on Monday and will play a third contest in two weeks against Point Park at the same facility.  The Gray Wolves are 3-0-1 all-time in an indoor environment, having played three times against Rochester (Mich.) indoors for the Warriors' home matches prior to this season.

Season Debut: Maddy Fleming made her first appearance this season for the Gray Wolves against Holy Cross (Ind.).  The redshirt-junior midfielder sat out the fall portion of the campaign.

Nearing More School Records: Kerstyn Williams continues to move closer to several other school records in goal in addition to the shutout record she just set.  The senior goalkeeper ranks second in program history for matches played in goal (41), minutes played in goal (3114:26), and saves (257).  She needs just two saves to match Kiley Transit (2016-2018) who holds all three of those records.  Williams' career save percentage of .803 and goals against average of 1.82 are program records.

In the Record Book: Katie Varnery scored her team-leading second goal of the year against Holy Cross (Ind.) to tie Abigail Mann for fifth on the Lourdes all-time scoring list.  Varney and Mann both have seven career goals, one behind Jada Foster (2015-2016) for fourth on the all-time charts.  Mann is also fourth in school history with 20 career points while Varney is fifth with 18.

Snapping the Losing Skid: Lourdes had dropped 12 straight matches prior to the victory over Holy Cross (Ind.) on Monday.  The Gray Wolves last won a match on Oct. 9, 2019, a 2-1 victory at Cleary.

Lots of Appearances: Maria Schmidt ranks second all-time at Lourdes with 51 starts wearing the terra cotta and black.  She trails just Karlie O'Keefe (2016-2019) who started 68 contests during her time with the Gray Wolves.  Schmidt also ranks fifth in all-time appearances with 52, one behind Lauren Poslaiko (2016-2019) who is fourth having played in 53 contests.  Erin Caldwell has matched Kiley Transit's (2016-2018) fourth place mark of 37 starts.  She is seventh behind Poslaiko for third place.

Captains: Kerstyn Williams, Maddy Hodgson, and Olivia Pomponio are all serving as the team's tri-captains in 2020.  All three are in their first season in the leadership role.

A Different Look This Season: Due to COVID-19, Aquinas, Madonna, Michigan-Dearborn, and Northwestern Ohio opted to not play soccer this fall, moving all of their matches to the spring.  The remaining seven league schools are playing a split season, with each contesting at least three league matches last fall.  The WHAC tournament and NAIA National Championships will also take place this spring.

This and That: Lourdes has played 24 different players already this season ... the Gray Wolves are 2-8-6 all-time in overtime matches ... Katie Varney leads Lourdes with 13 shot attempts on the year, 10 of which were on net ... they Gray Wolves have won 35 corner kicks while yielding just 22 this year.
