Box Score
Playing a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference match for the first time in program history, Lourdes suffered a 7-0 setback to Lawrence Tech on Wednesday afternoon inside of the Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield, Mich.
Â
"This was a tough loss because the score didn't reflect how close the matches actually were,"
Megan Miller said following her debut as the Gray Wolves' head coach. "Every court had multiple deuce points that could have gone in either direction. We also had different doubles teams, so they all adapted quickly and still carried out their game plans."
Â
In doubles action, the Blue Devils took the opening point winning all three matches. The Lourdes tandem of
Ulises Barradas (Neuva Esparta, Venezuela/UE Colegio Madre Guadalupe) and
Niladri Aich (Cooch Behar, India/Maumee Valley Country Dah [Ohio] H.S.) fell 6-0 at the top spot while
Kareem Badr (Orlando, Fla./Montverde Academy) and
Dominick Brock (Grant, Mich./Grant H.S.) fell 6-1 at second doubles. Lawrence Tech won third doubles by default.
Â
Lawrence Tech (1-1, 1-0 WHAC) swept each of the singles contests in straight sets. Badr, making his Lourdes debut, played the tightest match score wise, falling 6-1, 6-3 at the third spot. Barradas fell 6-0, 6-3 at number one singles while Aich and Brock dropped 6-0, 6-0 decisions at second and fourth singles respectively. The Blue Devils won fifth and sixth singles by default.
Â
"This was certainly some of the best tennis I have seen since we first started practicing so I am excited to see what this team can do the rest of the season," concluded Miller.
Â
Lourdes (0-2) returns to the court on Saturday for a non-conference contest against Olivet. First serve is set for 11 a.m. inside of Minges Athletic Club in Battle Creek, Mich.
