GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (LourdesAthletics.com) --Â The Lourdes University men's tennis team battled wire-to-wire on the road Friday afternoon, but came up just shy in a 4-3 setback to Aquinas College at the Grand Rapids Racquet and Fitness Center.
"I am so proud of how these young men are conducting themselves," said head coach
Epifani Jones. "The sportsmanship, investment in our team values, and skill building are at an optimal level," she finished.Â
The Gray Wolves claimed the doubles point with a pair of gritty 7-5 wins on the top two courts. Joshua Parish and Alvaro Trillo-Sanchez outlasted the Saints' top pair at No. 1, while Luis Guzman and Kaden Robertson followed suit at No. 2 to secure the early edge.
In singles action, Guzman cruised to a straight-set win at No. 2 (6-2, 6-2), and Trillo-Sanchez was dominant at No. 3, earning a 6-1, 6-1 victory to put Lourdes within striking distance. However, Aquinas answered with wins at No. 1 and No. 4, and took advantage of two Lourdes forfeits in the fifth and sixth spots to close out the narrow team win.
