Lourdes registered its first victory in the history of the Gray Wolf men's tennis program on Saturday, defeating Olivet 6-3 inside of Minges Creek Athletic Club in Battle Creek, Mich.
"The men had some nerves we had to hit through but once they did, they were on fire," head coach
Megan Miller said following the victory. "I was really impressed with how they continued to fight for every point in doubles no matter how they were playing at the time and they continued to cheer each other on. It was definitely a great team win today and I'm excited to see what this team can accomplish this spring season."
Ulises Barradas (Neuva Esparta, Venezuela/UE Colegio Madre Guadalupe) and
Aryan Mittlal (Ghaziabad, India/DPS Indirapuram) teamed for an 8-7 (3) triumph at first doubles, needing a tie-break to earn the victory.
Niladri Aich (Cooch Behar, India/Maumee Valley Country Day H.S. [Ohio]) and
Kareem Badr (Orlando, Fla./Montverde Academy) had an easier time of it at the second spot with an 8-2 triumph.
In singles play, Mittal, making his collegiate debut, cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the top of the order. Barradas picked up his first win at Lourdes with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at number two while Aich improved to 2-1 on the year with a 6-2, 6-2 win at the third spot.
Dominick Brock (Grant, Mich./Grant H.S.) also earned his second collegiate win, 6-2, 6-3 at fifth singles.
Olivet (3-2) won at fourth singles as Badr fell 6-1, 6-3 as well as picking up default wins at sixth singles and third doubles for the Comets' other points.
Lourdes (1-2) heads to Fort Wayne, Ind. on Monday afternoon as the Gray Wolves face Indiana Tech. First serve is set for noon inside of Franklin Athletic Club.
