Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: After 12 days off, Lourdes returns to action on Tuesday evening as the Gray Wolves travel to Fort Wayne, Ind. to battle Indiana Tech. The Gray Wolves are in a stretch in which they are playing six out of eight contests away from home.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his 11th season on the Lourdes bench,
Greg Reitz has a 198-135 (.595) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In his 11th season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has a 218-170 (.562) career mark. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history and was named WHAC Coach of the Year in 2015.
Series Notes: Lourdes leads the all-time series against Indiana Tech 9-7 dating back to Oct. 1, 2010. The Warriors swept last season's two meetings, winning in five sets in Fort Wayne, Ind. and in three sets inside the Ebeid Rec Center. The series is tied 4-4 in Fort Wayne.
Wrapping Up Last Week (or Two Weeks Ago): Lourdes split the first two sets on the road at Cornerstone on Jan. 26 before dropping a four-set match to the Golden Eagles 25-21, 23-25, 25-11, 25-16.
Michaela Eisenhauer and
McKenna Hall had seven kills each to lead the offense while
Alli Plasencio tallied 28 digs defensively. Lourdes hit just .025 for the match in the loss.
Scouting Indiana Tech: The Warriors had their seven-match winning streak snapped on Jan. 29, falling in straight sets at Thomas More. Indiana Tech played seven matches during the fall, and won all five of its WHAC contests. Emma Westra leads Indiana Tech with 74 kills while Andrea Schriver has handed out 150 assists. Madysn Cardinal and Genna Karbowski have 10 service aces each. Defensively, Jacey Blust has recorded 199 digs while Havilyn Cummings has tallied a team-high 32 blocks.
Devendorf Doubles Up: Annika Devendorf registered her first double-double of the season, and fourth of her career at Cornerstone. The sophomore setter handed out 24 assists while registering 13 digs, a new career high defensively. Devendorf's previous best defensive game was 12 digs last year against Rochester (Mich.) on the road.
Plasencio Tallies Double Figures Again: Alli Plasencio recorded her 12th consecutive match with double figure digs dating back to last season with her 28-dig effort against Cornerstone. The junior now has 36 career matches in which she has tallied double figures for the Gray Wolves.
Welcome Back Cammy: Cammy Smith made her season debut for the Gray Wolves at Cornerstone after missing the opener versus Saint Xavier. Smith put down five kills and recorded three blocks in her first appearance of the year.
Lourdes on the Road: Lourdes is 66-50 all-time in true road games over its program's history. The Gray Wolves went 7-6 in true road matches in 2019 and have finished the year with a winning record away from home every season beginning in 2014.
In the Record Books: Alli Plasencio has moved into fourth place in program history with 767 career digs, passing Hannah Thompson (2010-2011) on the all-time charts. She is 90 digs shy of
Molly Shonk's (2015-2016) third place total of 827.
Yasmin Assis ranks 10th in Gray Wolf history with 423 career assists. She trails
Sarah Wisser (2016-2019) by 47 for ninth on the all-time charts.
Nearing 200: Lourdes is just two victories shy of 200 in the program's history. Head coach
Greg Reitz has been a part of all 198 wins today for the Gray Wolves. Lourdes enters the weekend with a 198-133 all-time record.
A Big Block: Michaela Eisenhauer has tallied 10 blocks through the first two matches of the season for the Gay Wolves. She now has 51 rejections in her two seasons at Lourdes.
Lourdes Picked Sixth in WHAC Preseason Poll: Lourdes was projected to finish in sixth place in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference this season in a preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches last fall. Madonna was picked to win the regular title with Aquinas tabbed runner-up.
A Different Look This Season: Due to COVID-19, only four schools in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference played league matches during the fall. Indiana Tech, Concordia (Mich.), Lawrence Tech, and Rochester (Mich.) each have either four or five WHAC contests under their belt while the remaining schools will join the four in competition this spring. The WHAC tournament and NAIA National Championships will also take place this spring.
This and That: Lourdes has used 13 different players through the first two matches with only
Alli Plasencio,
Michaela Eisenhauer, and
McKenna Hall appearing all nine sets ... the Gray Wolves are playing just one home match between Jan. 24 and Feb. 25.
