Lourdes Closes Homestand with Rochester, Heads to Madonna This Weekend

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: The Gray Wolves return to the court this week facing a pair of opponents that Lourdes defeated earlier this season.  Lourdes wraps up a three-match homestand on Friday evening as the Gray Wolves entertain Rochester (Mich.).  The Gray Wolves then return to the road on Saturday evening, heading to Madonna.

Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his 11th season on the Lourdes bench, Greg Reitz has a 201-141 (.588) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves.  In his 11th season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has a 221-176 (.557) career mark.  He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history and was named WHAC Coach of the Year in 2015.

Series Notes: Lourdes holds a 10-1 series advantage against Rochester (Mich.) dating back to Aug. 21, 2010.  The Gray Wolves have won the last 10 meetings between the two schools after defeating the Warriors in straight sets in Rochester Hills, Mich. on Feb. 28.  Lourdes is 3-0 against Rochester inside the Ebeid Rec Center.  Lourdes and Madonna have met 20 previous times in a series that began Oct. 8, 2010.  The Gray Wolves have won three of the last four meetings against the Crusaders after downing Madonna in five sets at home on Feb. 24.  Madonna holds a 6-4 series edge all-time in Livonia, Mich.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes registered its second consecutive WHAC road sweep on March 2, defeating Northwestern Ohio 26-24, 26-24, 25-14.  Macey Zinser hit .471 with a team-high eight kills in the victory.  On Friday (March 5), Aquinas battled from a two sets to one deficit to defeat the Gray Wolves 25-20, 23-25, 19-25, 25-14, 15-9 inside the Ebeid Rec Center.  Kortney Ellison tallied 14 kills while Alli Plasencio had 28 digs in the loss.  On Saturday (March 6), Concordia (Mich.) defeated Lourdes in four sets 25-23, 19-25, 25-13, 25-20 in Sylvania.  Michaela Eisenhauer had a team-high nine kills in the setback.

Scouting Rochester (Mich.): The Warriors have dropped eight straight matches after falling in straight sets at home to both Aquinas and Bethel (Ind.) on Saturday afternoon.  Mackenzie Winger leads Rochester with 116 kills while hitting .132 on the year.  Autumn Deshetsky has dished out 240 assists while Kailey Wendling has tallied a team-best 21 service aces.  Defensively, Carly Rodman has 359 digs while Olivia Pannecouk has recorded 40 blocks. 

Scouting Madonna: The Crusaders had their four-match winning streak snapped on Tuesday with a straight sets loss on the road at Aquinas.  Jodie Kelly leads Madonna with 207 kills and is hitting .233 while Jordyn Dawson has handed out a team-leading 281 assists.  Olivia Sweeney paces the Crusaders' service game with 16 aces.  Defensively, Sweeney has a team-high 222 digs while DJ Sargent has recorded 45 blocks.

Racking Up Double-Doubles: Yasmin Assis registered her fourth and fifth double-doubles of the year last weekend.  She handed out 32 assists and tallied 16 digs against Aquinas before notching 24 assists and 10 digs one day later against Concordia (Mich.).  Vanessa Villarreal also had her third double-double of the year against Aquinas, registering 10 kills and 10 digs.

Plasencio Third All-time in Digs: Alli Plasencio has moved into third place in program history with 888 career digs, passing Molly Shonk (2015-2016) on the all-time charts.  She still trails second place Angelica Dippold (2016-2019) by 717 digs.

Plasencio Also on Aces List: Alli Plasencio has moved into 10th place on the Gray Wolves' career service ace chart.  The junior has 59 over her three years at Lourdes.  She is nine aces behind Carolyn Manley (2014-2016) and Ali Mass (2010-2013) for eighth place.

Assis on the Assist Charts: Yasmin Assis has moved into ninth in Gray Wolf history with 645 career assists.  She trails Mallory Lenhart (2014-2015) by just six assists for eighth on the all-time charts.  Assis is also just 29 helpers behind Michi Jimenez (2012-2015) for seventh on the Lourdes career chart.

Reaching 200: Lourdes won its 200th match in program history on Sunday with the straight sets victory at Rochester (Mich.) on Feb. 28.  The Gray Wolves are in just their 11th season as a NAIA varsity women's program.  Lourdes enters this week with a 201-136 all-time record.

Another Ranked Victory: Lourdes picked up its 16th NAIA top-25 victory all-time last when it defeated 19th-ranked Madonna in five sets in the first meeting between the two schools.  The Gray Wolves are now 16-35 all-time against ranked opponents.  The win against the Crusaders was the first against a ranked foe since Sept. 19, 2018, a four-set victory also over #23 Madonna.

This and That: Only Alli Plasencio and Michaela Eisenhauer has appeared in all 44 sets for Lourdes this year ... the Gray Wolves have served up 78 aces while committing just 56 service errors ... Kylee McBride saw her first action of the season for the Gray Wolves against Northwestern Ohio last week.
