Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: After winning two of three to open up the spring portion of the schedule, Lourdes returns to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play for the first time in more than four months on Wednesday afternoon. The Gray Wolves will host Northwestern Ohio outdoors at Wildcat Stadium, playing at home for the first time since October 3.
Head Coach Jackie Phillips: In her sixth season on the Lourdes bench,
Jackie Phillips has a 33-56-6 (.379) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as overall as a head coach. She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Northwestern Ohio leads the all-time series against Lourdes 6-0 dating back to Oct. 14, 2015. Last season, the Racers scored a 6-1 victory in Lima, Ohio during the regular season before defeating the Gray Wolves 5-1 in the same location in the quarterfinals of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament. UNOH has won both previous games at Wildcat Stadium.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Abigail Mann scored midway through the first half and
McKenzie Klingensmith added an insurance goal just before halftime as the Gray Wolves defeated Point Park 2-0 on Friday afternoon indoors at Total Sports.
Elaina Hillman picked up an assist for the Gray Wolves on Klingensmith's goal.
Kerstyn Williams made six saves to earn her second clean sheet of the season.
Scouting Northwestern Ohio: The Racers are opening their season against the Gray Wolves on Wednesday after going 21-2 overall and 11-0 in WHAC play on the way to a league title. Northwestern Ohio has just four returnees from last year's squad. Jeweleen Reuille leads all UNOH returners having scored 16 goals and tallied 38 total points in 2019 while Agnes Stefansdottir added six goals and six assists for 18 points.
Williams Earns WHAC Honors: Kerstyn Williams was named the WHAC Defensive Player of the Week for the fifth time in her career after shutting out Point Park. The senior netminder made six saves in the 2-0 win, garnering her first honor this season.
Klingensmith Scores First Collegiate Goal: McKenzie Klingensmith scored with less than two minutes remaining in the opening half on Friday against Point Park for her first collegiate goal and points. The freshman has appeared in seven matches during her rookie year, taking three total shot attempts.
The Offense Has Arrived: Lourdes managed just two goals in its five matches during the fall portion of the schedule but the offense has come to life this spring. The Gray Wolves have scored six times in the three spring matches and are now averaging a goal per match for the season.
Williams Extends Career Shutout Mark: Kerstyn Williams recorded her second shutout of the season, adding to her career record at Lourdes, in the victory over Point Park. Williams now has eight clean sheets over her four years, two more than the previous mark of six set by
Erika Brinkman (2015).
Williams Owns Another Mark: Kerstyn Williams has also become the Gray Wolves' all-time leader with 269 career saves. She passed
Kiley Transit (2016-2018) who finished her career with 259 stops, earlier this spring.
Nearing More School Records: Kerstyn Williams continues to move closer to several other school records in goal in addition to the shutout and saves records she just set. The senior goalkeeper ranks second in program history for matches played in goal (43), as well as minutes played in goal (3294:26). Her next appearance will match
Kiley Transit's (2016-2018) record for appearances by a keeper and she is about 125 minutes shy of that mark as well. Williams' career save percentage of .794 and goals against average of 1.91 are currently program records as well.
In the Record Book: Abigail Mann scored her eighth career goal against Point Park, moving her into a tie for fourth on the Gray Wolves' all-time scoring chart with
Jada Foster (2015-2016). Mann is one goal behind
Remy Houttekier's (2015, 2017) third place total of nine career goals.
Katie Varney ranks sixth on the all-time goals list, one behind Mann and Foster. Mann is also fourth in school history with 22 career points while Varney is fifth with 18.
Lots of Appearances: Maria Schmidt ranks second all-time at Lourdes with 53 starts wearing the terra cotta and black. She trails just
Karlie O'Keefe (2016-2019) who started 68 contests during her time with the Gray Wolves. Schmidt also is fourth in all-time appearances with 54, trailing
Alyssa Swanson (2015-2018) by four matches for third.
Erin Caldwell has moved into fourth with 39 career starting assignments, just five behind Poslaiko for third place.
Captains: Kerstyn Williams and
Olivia Pomponio are all serving as the team's co-captains for the spring season. Both are in their first season in the leadership role.
This and That: Lourdes has played 25 different players already this season ...
Hannah Martin made her first appearance of the season against Point Park ... the Gray Wolves are 2-8-6 all-time in overtime matches ... the Gray Wolves have won 46 corner kicks while yielding just 30 this year ...
Abigail Mann's match-winning goal against Point Park was the third of her career, tying her for fourth on the school's all-time list.
