Lourdes continued its four-match homestand on Saturday morning, dropping a 6-0 decision to Cornerstone at Shadow Valley-Maumee.
"It was a tough loss to start the weekend off," head coach
Megan Miller said afterwards. "When you dig too big of a hole, it is hard to claw your way back out regardless of how well you start playing. Unfortunately, we just dug too big of a hole early and struggled to get momentum back. We improved from previous matches but just couldn't get that momentum or confidence back."
Aryan Mittal (Ghaziabad, India/DPS Indirapuram) and
Ulises Barradas (Neuva Esparta, Venezuela/UE Colegio Madre Guadalupe) dropped a tight 7-6 (5) decision at the top of the doubles lineup while
Kareem Badr (Orlando, Fla./Montverde Academy) and
Dominick Brock (Grant, Mich./Grant H.S.) fell 6-1 at the second spot, allowing Cornerstone (7-7, 3-3 WHAC) to win the opening point.
Mittla and Barradas both played tie-breaks in their first set in singles as well. Mittal fell 7-6 (5), 6-0 at the top spot by Barradas suffered a 7-6 (3), 6-4 setback at number two. Badr lost a 6-0, 6-1 match at third singles while Brock suffered a 6-1, 6-3 defeat at number four.
Lourdes (2-6, 0-4) will return to action on Monday afternoon, making up a match against Concordia (Mich.). First serve is set for 12:30 p.m. at Shadow Valley.
