Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: Lourdes heads into postseason play on Tuesday evening as the seventh seed in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament. The Gray Wolves will battle second-seeded, and 25th-ranked, Aquinas in the quarterfinal round.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his 11th season on the Lourdes bench,
Greg Reitz has a 203-145 (.583) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In his 11th season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has a 223-180 (.553) career mark. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history and was named WHAC Coach of the Year in 2015.
Series Notes: Aquinas holds a 10-8 all-time series advantage against Lourdes dating back to Oct. 7, 2011. The Saints won the lone meeting during the regular season, a five-set triumph at the Ebeid Rec Center on March 5. The match that was slated for Grand Rapids, Mich. on March 27 was cancelled due to COVID-19. Aquinas holds a 4-3 edge at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center but the Gray Wolves posted a straight sets win last year during the WHAC quarterfinals. Lourdes is 2-0 all-time against the Saints in the WHAC tournament.
Wrapping Up Last Week (or Two Weeks Ago): Lourdes suffered a four-set loss to Indiana Tech at home 25-18, 25-23, 20-25, 25-22 on March 23.
Allie Hale led the Gray Wolves with 13 kills and 11 digs while
Quinn Yondo tallied 23 digs. In what proved to be the regular season finale on March 26, Lourdes swept Northwestern Ohio 25-15, 25-13, 25-20. Hale had 13 kills and hit .500 while
Alli Plasencio tallied 15 digs.
Scouting Aquinas: The Saints ended their regular season on April 1 with a 3-0 sweep against Siena Heights at home. Jackie Rozell leads Aquinas with 237 kills on the year while Payton Klein is hitting .339. Kali Crawford has handed out 633 assists. Klein and Rozell share the team lead with 24 service aces each as well. Defensively, Adrien Yondo has registered 245 digs while Emily Jones has registered 77 blocks, including 10 of the solo variety.
Lourdes in the WHAC Tournament: The Gray Wolves are making their 10th appearance in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament, having posted a 12-8 mark in the event. Lourdes won the championship in both 2015 and 2016. The Gray Wolves advanced to the semifinals in 2019, downing Aquinas in straight sets on the road before dropping a four-set decision to Madonna in a neutral site contest.
Some Time Off: Lourdes had both of its final two regular season matches cancelled due to COVID-19 issues with their opponents. The Gray Wolves were unable to play a road match at Aquinas or their home finale versus Lawrence Tech, and thus have not stepped on the court since March 26.
Facing Ranked Foes: Aquinas will be the second ranked opponent the Gray Wolves have faced this season. Lourdes defeated then 19th-ranked Madonna at home on Feb. 24 in five sets to improve to 16-35 all-time against NAIA top-25 opponents.
Hale Has Solid Final Week: Allie Hale led the Gray Wolves in the final week of the season offensively. She tallied 13 kills against Indiana Tech and added the same number, while swinging at a .500 clip in the final match against Northwestern Ohio. The senior also recorded 11 digs in the contest against Indiana Tech, giving her three double-doubles on the year.
Eisenhauer Moves Up Blocks List: Michaela Eisenhauer has moved into the top-10, jumping into seventh place, on Lourdes' career blocks list with 96 over her two years with the Gray Wolves. She just passed
Stephanie Ruffing (2015-2016) on the list and is just 15 blocks behind Genessee Tate (2016-2017). She has 55 rejections this season.
Plasencio Third All-time in Digs: Alli Plasencio has moved into third place in program history with 969 career digs, passing
Molly Shonk (2015-2016) on the all-time charts. She still trails second place
Angelica Dippold (2016-2019) by 636 digs.
Plasencio Also on Aces List: Alli Plasencio has moved into eighth place on the Gray Wolves' career service ace chart. The junior has 70 over her three years at Lourdes, passing
Carolyn Manley (2014-2016) and Ali Mass (2010-2013) last week. She is eight aces behind
Michi Jimenez (2012-2015) for seventh on the all-time charts.
On the Assist Charts: Yasmin Assis has moved into seventh in Gray Wolf history with 706 career assists. She just passed
Michi Jimenez (2012-2015) on the all-time charts. She trails Jami Markus (2017-2018) by 188 assists for sixth place on the all-time list.
Megan Vayansky has moved into 10th place on the same list with 559 assists.
Reaching 200: Lourdes won its 200th match in program history on Sunday with the straight sets victory at Rochester (Mich.) on Feb. 28. The Gray Wolves are in just their 11th season as a NAIA varsity women's program. Lourdes enters this week with a 201-136 all-time record.
