Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: The Gray Wolves look to extend their two-match winning streak on Wednesday evening as Lourdes heads to Lawrence Tech. The team returns to the Ebeid Rec Center on Friday evening as the Gray Wolves entertain Concordia (Mich.). A five-match road trip begins on Saturday as Lourdes travels to Bethel (Ind.) for a non-conference contest.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his 12th season on the Lourdes bench,
Greg Reitz has a 207-153 (.575) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In his 14th season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has a 227-188 (.547) career mark. He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history and was named WHAC Coach of the Year in 2015.
Series Notes: Lourdes holds a 15-4 series advantage against Lawrence Tech dating back to Sept. 17, 2011. The Blue Devils have won the last three meetings between the two schools though, including a 3-1 victory in Southfield, Mich. on Feb. 20, 2021. The Gray Wolves are 6-3 all-time in Southfield. Lourdes holds a 17-3 all-time advantage against Concordia (Mich.) in a series that began Aug. 20, 2010. The Cardinals swept a pair of meetings in the spring, winning in four sets in the Ebeid Rec Center and in five sets in Ann Arbor, Mich. Lourdes is 4-1 against Concordia all-time in the Ebeid Rec Center. The Gray Wolves hold a 5-3 series edge against Bethel (Ind.) dating back to Aug. 27, 2010. Lourdes has won five straight meetings between the two, including a sweep in Mishawaka, Ind. on Sept. 9, 2017, the last time the two schools met. The Gray Wolves are 3-0 against the Pilots in Mishawaka.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes swept Northwestern Ohio 25-20, 25-8, 25-21 on Wednesday (Sept. 22) for their first WHAC victory of the season.
Vanessa Villarreal had 10 kills and 12 digs as the Gray Wolves hit .258. On Friday (Sept. 24), Lourdes downed Cornerstone 25-23, 25-22, 8-25, 25-23 behind 13 kills and a .346 hitting mark from
Cammy Smith and 26 digs by
Alli Plasencio.
Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils have played a conference only schedule thus far and are coming off a three-set sweep at Indiana Tech on Saturday (Sept. 25). Lindsay Hubler leads Lawrence Tech with 94 kills while Madeline Hudson is hitting .288. Nicole Whan has handed out a team-high 150 assists while Riley O'Connell has tallied six service aces. Defensively, Hubler has a team-high 72 digs while Ellery Cure has recorded 10 blocks.
Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The Cardinals enter the week following a 3-0 setback at home against Madonna on Saturday (Sept. 25). Concordia travels to Indiana Tech on Wednesday before visiting Lourdes. Kayla Peters has led the Cardinals with 210 kills and is hitting .254 while Abigail Austin has tallied 578 assists. Breann June has recorded 17 service aces. On defense, McKenzie Peters has a team-high 306 digs while Kaitlin Veihl has recorded 34 blocks.
Scouting Bethel (Ind.): The Pilots enter the week having dropped back-to-back matches after falling in four sets at Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday (Sept. 25). Bethel hosts Goshen on Wednesday before entertaining Lourdes. Isabelle North paces the offense with 250 kills and a .387 hitting percentage while Madyson Beaver has handed out a team-high 442 assists. Beaver also leads the team with 36 service aces. Defensively, Jackeline Fernandez has recorded 309 digs while Maddy Payne has 100 blocks, including 23 of the solo variety.
Home Sweet Home: Lourdes opened the home portion of its schedule with back-to-back victories last week. The Gray Wolves are now 48-17 all-time inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
Racking Up Double-Doubles: Lourdes had just one double-double through the team's first nine matches, a 31-assist, 13-dig effort by
Katey Stakolich at Madonna on Sept. 18. The Gray Wolves registered three last week in the two contests. Stakolich had 36 assists and 13 digs against Cornerstone while
Kylee McBride recorded 10 kills and 18 digs in the same match.
Vanessa Villarreal posted a 10-kill, 12-dig performance in the win over Northwestern Ohio.
Spreading Around the Offense: Lourdes has utilized a balanced offensive attack thus far this year.
Macey Zinser enters the week leading the team with 68 kills while
Abby Gentile has added 65 and
Vanessa Villarreal has tallied 64 kills.
Kylee McBride has been a key cog as well, putting down 53 balls.
Plasencio All Over the Record Books: Alli Plasencio enters the week ranked third in program history with 1,164 career digs. She is 451 behind Angelica Dippold (2016-2019) for second all-time. Plasencio also ranks eighth all-time with 76 service aces, needing two more to match Michi Jiminez (2012-2015) for seventh on the career charts. Plasencio ranks seventh in school history having appeared in 311 sets all-time, two behind Ali Mass' (2010-2013) sixth place total. Plasencio is tied with Shannon Fischer (2015-2018) for seventh all-time at Lourdes having appeared in 85 career matches.
Eisenhauer and Smith on the Blocking Lists: Michaela Eisenhauer ranks seventh all-time at Lourdes with 101 career blocks, needing 10 more to match Genessee Tate (2016-2017) for sixth all-time.
Cammy Smith has moved into ninth place on the blocks list with 92. She is two shy of Stephanie Ruffing (2015-2016) for eighth on the all-time charts.
