Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes concludes its four-match season-opening road trip this week looking to remain unbeaten after a draw and a victory last week. The Gray Wolves head to Holy Cross (Ind.) on Tuesday afternoon before traveling to Shawnee State on Saturday night.
Head Coach Jackie Phillips: In her seventh season on the Lourdes bench,
Jackie Phillips has a 37-61-7 (.386) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as overall as a head coach. She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes won the only previous meeting against Holy Cross (Ind.) as the two schools met indoors in Rossford, Ohio on Feb. 8, 2021 with the Gray Wolves posting a 3-0 triumph. Lourdes and Shawnee State will be meeting on the pitch in women's soccer for the first time ever on Saturday.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes fell behind at Rio Grande just 20 seconds into the season opener on Wednesday (Sept. 1), but held the Red Storm scoreless the rest of the way and battled back to a 1-1 double-overtime draw.
Abigail Mann scored the lone goal for the Gray Wolves while
Emmy Rodger made four saves after halftime. On Saturday (Sept. 4),
Chloe Shaffer scored in the first half and
Chloe Nofziger added another tally after intermission as Lourdes defeated Point Park 2-1 on the road.
Scouting Holy Cross (Ind.): The Saints enter the match after nearly a week off. Holy Cross won its last contest last Wednesday (Sept. 1) by a score of 8-0 at home against Grace Christian. Nicole Cook leads the Saints with four goals and nine total points while Olivia Shaw has a team-high three assists and five points. In goal, Taylor Primack has played a majority of the minutes, sporting a 1.21 goals against average and a .786 save percentage.
Scouting Shawnee State: The Bears enter the week having won two straight matches after downing Union (Ky.) on the road 1-0 on Saturday (Sept. 1). Shawnee State hosts Trinity Christian on Monday and Point Park on Wednesday before entertaining the Gray Wolves. Eilidh McHattie has scored a team-high four goals this year for eight total points while Addy Haynna has found the back of the net twice. Paige Alford, Madison Humble, and Brenna Woodad have two assists each. In goal, Leonie Heck has played most of the minutes, sporting a 1.21 goals against average and a .667 save mark.
Looking to Match Program's Best Start: Twice in program history prior to this year Lourdes remained unbeaten through two matches. In 2016 and 2018, the Gray Wolves went 2-0 while starting this year 1-0-1. With a win on Tuesday, Lourdes can match the 2018 squad for the best start in school history at 2-0-1.
Sharing the Time in Goal: Lourdes has used all three goalkeepers already this season through two matches. Freshman
Emmy Rodger has played a team-high 96 minutes without yielding a goal and making five saves.
Lily Yoder has played 75 minutes between the posts while
Kerstyn Williams made her first appearance of the season at Point Park, playing just under 29 minutes.
First Career Match-Winner: Chloe Nofziger scored her first career match-winning goal in the victory at Point Park. The sophomore tallied one goal last year in her rookie season before finding the back of the net for the first time this year on Saturday.
Mann and Shaffer Continue Climb on Scoring Charts: Abigail Mann tallied her first goal of the season, and 11th of her career, in the season opener against Rio Grande. She now has 11 goals, third most all-time at Lourdes. She also moved into third place alone with 28 career points.
Chloe Shaffer tallied her first marker of the year against Point Park, giving her six for her career, seventh most in program history. Shaffer is also seventh in school history with 16 career points.
A Record Holder in Goal: Kerstyn Williams has already set all of the school's career goalkeeping records. Williams has eight career shutouts, sports a .796 career save percentage and a 1.87 goals against average while making 305 saves in 51 matches between the posts.
Lots of Appearances: Erin Caldwell has moved into a tie with Lauren Poslaiko (2016-2019) for fifth in program history with 53 career appearances.
Kerstyn Williams is seventh in school history having stepped on to the pitch 52 times.
Program Debuts: Ellen Kolodin,
Brynn McGarvey,
Emmy Rodger, and
Kayla Dillinger all made their collegiate debuts last Wednesday at Rio Grande.
Captains: Kerstyn Williams, and
Olivia Pomponio will serve as the team's co-captains in 2020. Both served in the leadership role in 2020 as well.
Gray Wolves Tabbed Ninth in WHAC Preseason Poll: Lourdes was selected to finish in ninth place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. The Gray Wolves were picked just behind eighth place Indiana Tech. Aquinas was chosen to win the league crown.
This and That: Lourdes enters the week with a 37-61-7 all-time record ... the Gray Wolves are 13-35-3 all-time on the road ... Lourdes played its first overtime match since Nov. 1, 2019 on Wednesday against Rio Grande ... the Gray Wolves are 2-8-7 all-time when playing more than 90 minutes.
