Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes begins a three-match homestand, its final home stretch of the regular season, on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves entertain Concordia (Mich.). The Gray Wolves remain at Wildcat Stadium on Saturday evening to host Siena Heights for its annual Cancer Match.
Head Coach Jackie Phillips: In her eighth season on the Lourdes bench,
Jackie Phillips has a 49-68-17 (.429) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as overall as a head coach. She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Concordia (Mich.) leads the all-time series against Lourdes 4-3 dating back to Oct. 17, 2015. The Gray Wolves snapped a three-match losing skid in the series against the Cardinals with a 2-0 victory last year in Ann Arbor, Mich. The series is tied 1-1 at Wildcat Stadium. Siena Heights holds a 7-1-1 edge against the Gray Wolves in a series that began Oct. 31, 2015. The two sides split a pair of meetings last season, both in Adrian, Mich. Lourdes was a 1-0 victor during the regular season before the Saints won a 4-2 decision in the WHAC quarterfinals. Siena Heights holds a 3-0-1 edge all-time at Wildcat Stadium.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Brynn McGarvey's goal just 1:50 into the second half lifted Lourdes to a 1-0 victory at Indiana Tech last Wednesday (Oct. 12).
Emmy Rodger made three saves in goal to earn the clean sheet. On Saturday, 15th-ranked Aquinas scored 1:45 into the match and added another goal late in the opening stanza on the way to a 2-0 victory over the Gray Wolves. Rodger had four stops between the posts.
Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The Cardinals snapped an eight-match winless streak on Saturday with a 1-0 victory on the road at Michigan-Dearborn. Megan Starkey leads Concordia with three goals and six points this season while Katelyn Aiello has five points on two goals and an assist. Isabel Stropich and Hazel Wright each have two assists. In goal, Hayley Jacobson has played every minute, sporting a 3.43 goals against average and a .682 save percentage.
Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints snapped a three-match winless streak with a 1-0 win over Indiana Tech on Saturday. Siena Heights travels to Aquinas on Wednesday before visiting Lourdes. Marissa Young leads the Saints with eight goals and 17 total points while Isabel Remar has added six goals and has 15 points. Emily Broman leads Siena Heights with nine assists this season. In goal, Caitlyn Harwood has played a majority of the minutes. She enters the week with a 0.63 goals against average and an .840 save percentage.
A Battle for Postseason Seeding: Lourdes enters the week in sixth place in the WHAC standings, just three points outside of fourth. The top-four teams at the conclusion of the regular season will host a quarterfinal match in the WHAC tournament, something the Gray Wolves have never done. Three of Lourdes' final four opponents are currently behind them in the standings.
McGarvey Nets Match-Winner: Brynn McGarvey scored her second match-winning goal of the season in the Gray Wolves' victory at Indiana Tech last Wednesday. The sophomore now has four match-winners all-time at Lourdes, tied for fourth most in program history. McGarvey is one match-winner shy of equalling the school's career record of five.
Scoring First Key: Lourdes is 5-0 this season when scoring the first goal of the match but has yet to rally from a 1-0 deficit for a victory. The Gray Wolves are 0-3-1 when surrendering the opening goal of the contest.
Extending the Career Mark: Emmy Rodger recorded the 10th shutout of her career against Indiana Tech on Oct. 12, extending the all-time mark she broke earlier this season. Rodger's 10 career shutouts have surpassed the previous school record of eight career clean sheets set by
Kerstyn Williams (2017-2021).
Playing Well at Home: Lourdes is 4-1-1 at Wildcat Stadium thus far in 2022. With one more victory, the Gray Wolves will be assured of a winning home campaign.
Rodger Third All-Time in Saves: Emmy Rodger's 113 career saves already rank her third on the school's career list, passing Erika Brinkman (2015). Kiley Transit (2016-2018) is next on the list for Rodger to catch. Transit finished her career with 259 stops.
Cancer Match Saturday: Lourdes will hold its annual Cancer Match on Saturday against Siena Heights. The Gray Wolves look to raise awareness for all types of cancer while also raising funds to help support cancer research.
Fit to Be Tied: Prior to the 2021 season, Lourdes had played to just six draws in the first six seasons of the program's history. Over the last two years (31 matches), the Gray Wolves have had a match end in a tie 11 times.
