Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: After winning its first postseason match in program history, sixth-seeded Lourdes looks to earn a trip to the WHAC championship match on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves travel to second-seeded Madonna for a semifinal matinee.
Head Coach Jackie Phillips: In her eighth season on the Lourdes bench,
Jackie Phillips has a 53-69-17 (.431) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as overall as a head coach. Â She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Madonna leads the all-time series 8-0-1 against Lourdes dating back to Sept. 30, 2015. Â The Crusaders won this season's first match 1-0 in Livonia, Mich. on Oct. 5. Â Madonna has won four straight in the series since the two schools battled to a scoreless draw during the 2018 season. Â The Crusaders hold a 4-0-1 series edge in matches played in Livonia.
Wrapping Up Quarterfinal Action: Emily Johnson scored on a blast from 35 yards out in the 29th minute for the only goal of the match on Wednesday evening as the sixth-seeded Gray Wolves upset Lawrence Tech, the third seed, 1-0, in Livonia, Mich. Â The Blue Devils outshot Lourdes 17-8 for the match but
Emmy Rodger made four saves to earn the clean sheet.
Scouting Madonna: The Crusaders enter the semifinals unbeaten in their last nine matches (8-0-1) after defeating Rochester (Mich.) 6-0 in Wednesday's quarterfinal at home. Â Abby Werthman leads Madonna with 14 goals and 31 total points, also holding the team lead with three assists. Â Holly McManus has added seven goals and has 15 points on the year. Â In goal, Brooke Bruletti has played every minute and sports a 1.06 goals against average and a .706 save percentage.
Lourdes in the WHAC Tournament: The Gray Wolves are making their sixth appearance in the WHAC tournament, and has qualified for the postseason event for the fourth consecutive year. Â Lourdes quarterfinal victory at Lawrence Tech was the program's first postseason win ever. Â The Gray Wolves have never hosted a tournament match, with their highest tournament seed ever coming last year when they entered as a number five seed.
Setting the Program's Win Mark: With a victory over Lawrence Tech, the Gray Wolves not only registered their first tournament win, but also set a new program single season record for triumphs. Â The nine wins this season surpassed match the school mark of eight victories set by the 2015 squad and equalled by the 2017, 2019, and 2021 teams.
Rodger Named WHAC Player of the Week: Emmy Rodger earned her second Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor after registering a pair of shutouts against Cleary and Michigan-Dearborn last week. Â She made nine total saves in the two wins, and now has four career Player of the Week accolades.
Shaffer Sets Record for Goals: With four goals last week,
Chloe Shaffer has become the program's all-time leading goal scorer with 17. Â She passed teammate
Abigail Mann, who has scored 16 goals during her four years with the Gray Wolves. Â Shaffer is second in program history with 41 career points, four behind Mann's record of 45.
She's a Winner: Chloe Shaffer notched the match-winning goal in both victories last week to set a new school career records. Â The senior now has seven match-winning goals, breaking the four-way tie for the previous record of five set by Karlie O'Keefe (2016-2019) and matched by current Gray Wolves
Abigail Mann and
Brynn McGarvey.
Playing a Lot of Matches: Erin Caldwell has set the program record for appearances, stepping onto the pitch 71 times during her career. Â
Erika Turk enters the semifinals with 68 career matches played, third all-time. Â She is one match shy of Karlie O'Keefe (2016-2019) for second on the all-time list. Â
More School Marks: Emmy Rodger recorded the 14th shutout of her career against Lawrence Tech on Wednesday, extending the all-time mark she broke earlier this season. Â Rodger's 10 clean sheets this year set a new single season mark, surpassing the old record of six set by Erika Brinkman in 2015.
Rodger Third All-Time in Saves: Emmy Rodger's 131 career saves already rank her third on the school's career list, passing Erika Brinkman (2015). Â Kiley Transit (2016-2018) is next on the list for Rodger to catch. Â Transit finished her career with 259 stops.
More School Records: Abigail Mann holds the Lourdes career assist record with 13 helpers during her time wearing the terra cotta and black. Â Mann also has attempted 172 shots during her time at Lourdes, 71 more than any other player in history.
