Gray Wolves Set to Tangle with Indiana Tech in WHAC Quarters

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: Postseason play opens on Wednesday for Lourdes women's volleyball as the Gray Wolves begin play in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament.  The Gray Wolves, the tournament's sixth seed, head to third-seeded Indiana Tech for quarterfinal action.

Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his 13th season on the Lourdes bench, Greg Reitz has a 228-180 (.559) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves.  In his 15th season overall as a women's head coach, Reitz has a 248-216 (.534) career mark.  He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history and was named WHAC Coach of the Year in 2015.

Series Notes: Indiana Tech leads the all-time series against Lourdes 12-10 dating back to Oct. 1, 2010.  The Warriors swept the regular season series from the Gray Wolves, recording a three-set victory in the Ebeid Rec Center on Sept. 21 before winning in five sets on Oct. 19 in Fort Wayne, Ind.  Indiana Tech holds a 7-4 series edge in Fort Wayne, and has won the last four meetings on its home floor.  Lourdes won the only previous WHAC tournament match against the Warriors, a 3-0 sweep at home on Nov. 14, 2015.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes jumped out to a two-set lead on Wednesday afternoon before having to fight off several match points in the fifth set to defeat Northwestern Ohio 25-17, 25-22, 15-25, 24-26, 19-17 at home to conclude the regular season.  McKenna Hall led the Gray Wolves with 20 kills and 17 digs while Katey Stakolich handed out 38 assists and picked up 20 digs.  Alli Plasencio registered 24 digs and Kylee McBride tallied 15 more.

Scouting Indiana Tech: The Warriors enter the postseason having dropped their regular season finale in five sets on Saturday afternoon at Siena Heights 25-21, 25-23, 21-25, 25-27, 17-15.  Noelle VanOort leads Indiana Tech offensively with 369 kills and has recorded 77 service aces while Havilyn Cummings is hitting a team-best .309.  Andrea Schriver has handed out a team-high 652 assists.  Defensively, Jacey Blust has tallied 538 digs while Taylor Sorg has a team-leading 78 digs, including 10 of the solo variety.

Lourdes in the WHAC Tournament: The Gray Wolves are making their 12th consecutive appearance in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament, having posted a 12-10 mark in the event.  Lourdes won the championship in both 2015 and 2016.  The Gray Wolves dropped their quarterfinal match in 2021 at Cornerstone in straight sets.

Hall Earns WHAC Honors: McKenna Hall was named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Attacker of the Week following the victory over Northwestern Ohio.  The senior put down 20 kills, hit .213 and recorded 17 digs for her fourth double-double of the season.  In addition, she was involved in four blocks.

Strong in the Serve-Pass Game: Lourdes has served up 185 aces this season, led by Lydia Landoll's 33, while committing just 163 errors from behind the service line this season.  Defensively, the Gray Wolves have allowed just 146 aces from its opposition while opponents have committed 208 service miscues.

Plasencio Nearing Digs Mark: Earlier this season at Madonna, Alli Plasencio became just the second Gray Wolf in program history to reach the 2,000-dig plateau.  She is now closing in on the program's career dig mark.  Plasencio enters the postseason with 2,114 digs, trailing Michi Jimenez's (2012-2015) 2,143 digs by just 29 on the all-time charts.  Plasencio has tallied double figure dig totals in all 29 matches thus far this season and in 50 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Plasencio All Over the Record Books: Alli Plasencio also ranks second all-time with 122 service aces, trailing just Lexie Curtis' (2013-2016) 164 on the chart.  Plasencio has set the career mark at Lourdes having appeared in 485 sets.  She is also tied for with Stef Comte (2013-2016) for most matches played ever in a Gray Wolf uniform with 133.

Also in the Record Books: Cammy Smith has climbed into third place on the career blocks list with 202.  Emily Arnold (2017-2018) ranks second all-time with 237 rejections.  Katey Stakolich has moved into third in school history with 1,346 career assists, needing 105 more to match Hannah Thompson (2010-2011) for second on the all-time chart.

Even More Top-10 Performances: Kylee McBride enters the tournament eighth all-time with 593 career kills, needing five more to match Katie McKenty (2012-2014) for seventh in program history.  Lydia Landoll has cracked the top-10 in career service aces with 71, ninth most at Lourdes.  She needs seven more to match Michi Jimenez's (2012-2015) eighth place total of 78.  McKenna Hall moved into the top-10 in digs and is now ninth with 564 over her three years.  She needs 29 more to match Stephanie Ruffing (2015-2016) for eighth place.

This and That: Alli Plasencio is the lone Gray Wolf to appear in all 104 sets this season ... Plasencio enters the week with 537 digs this season, fifth most in a single season in program history ... as a team, Lourdes has 172 total blocks and needs four more rejections to move into fifth as a team on the single season charts ... 18 of the Gray Wolves' 28 matches this season have been straight set decisions (8-10).
