Playing on their home courts for the first time this season, the Lourdes men's tennis team battled Aquinas tough on Saturday evening before falling to the Saints 7-0 at Shadow Valley.
"Men's tennis has been contributing immensely in sweat equity, and it is beginning to see returns on their investments," head coach
Epifani Jones said afterwards. "The core group is poised to have the best of building seasons."
Ulises Barradas (Nueva Esparta, Venezuela/UE Colegio Madre Guadalupe) and
Alvaro Trillo-Sanchez (Madrid, Spain/Churchill County [Nev.] H.S.) battled before falling 6-3 at the top of the doubles order while
Dominick Brock (Grant, Mich./Grant H.S.) and
Niladri Aich (Cooch Behar, India/Maumee Valley Country Day School [Ohio]) fell 6-2 at the third spot. At second doubles,
Victor Dieltiens (Altea, Spain/Sint Eduardus [Belgium]) and
Kareem Badr (Orlando, Fla./Montverde Academy) lost a 6-1 decision.
Barradas was very competitive at first singles as well, suffering a 6-4, 6-3 setback while Dieltiens fell 6-3, 6-1 at the second spot. Trillo-Sanchez and Badr each dropped 6-1, 6-2 matches at third and fourth singles respectively while Brock suffered a 6-1, 6-3 setback at fifth singles. Aich rounded out the lineup falling 6-1, 6-0.
Lourdes (0-4, 0-3) heads to 25
th-ranked Indiana Tech on Monday afternoon for a noon match at Wildwood Racquet Club in Fort Wayne, Ind.
