Taking to the courts for the first time this spring, Lourdes also played its home opener on Saturday evening, dropping a 7-0 match to Aquinas at Shadow Valley.
 
"Women's tennis enjoyed the debut of its two freshmen," head coach Epifani Jones said afterwards.  "I look forward to the continued evolution of the program."
 
In doubles action, Antonella Caro (Brampton, Ont./Holy Cross Catholic Academy) and Mallory Schardt (Temperance, Mich./Bedford H.S.), the two rookies, teamed at the number one spot, but fell 6-0.  Niki Polce (New Boston, Mich./Huron H.S.) and Jordan Bucher (North Baltimore, Ohio/North Baltimore H.S.) dropped their second doubles match by the same score.
 
In singles action, Caro played at the top of the lineup, falling 6-1, 6-0 while Schardt lost a 6-1, 6-1 decision at the second spot.  Polce and Bucher each dropped matches 6-0, 6-0 and third and fourth singles respectively.  Aquinas (4-6, 1-0 WHAC) won fifth and sixth singles by default.
 
Lourdes (0-1, 0-1) returns to the courts on Monday afternoon to battle 20^th-ranked Indiana Tech.  First serve is set for noon at Wildwood Racquet Club in Fort Wayne, Ind.
