Final Results

Lourdes won what proved to be the pivotal doubles point for the first time this season on Monday afternoon which propelled the Gray Wolves to a 4-2 victory over Concordia (Mich.) at Shadow Valley for the team's first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference win in program history.
 
Niki Polce (New Boston, Mich./Huron H.S.) and Mallory Schardt (Temparance, Mich./Bedford H.S.) began doubles with a 6-3 victory at the top of the lineup.  The Gray Wolves then clinched the doubles point with a thrilling 7-5 triumph by Antonella Caro (Brampton, Ont./Holy Cross Catholic Academy) and Winter Richburg (Toledo, Ohio/Rogers H.S.).  For both Caro and Richburg, it marked their first collegiate victories in either singles or doubles.
 
"We have spent the past months building on the idea of collaborative effort and owning your assignment, and today everyone stood firm in their respective roles," head coach Epifani Jones said afterwards.  "Winter Richburg has epitomized the concept.  She only picked up a racquet for the first time 34 days ago, and she has done everything she can with everything she has.  I could not be more pleased with the way this group of ladies has handled the challenges of this season."
 
Concordia (1-11, 0-5 WHAC) won fifth singles by default and earned a win at fourth singles as Richburg fell 6-0, 6-0 to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
 
The Gray Wolves battled back, taking the final three contests at the top three spots to earn the historic victory.  Schardt recorded a 6-3, 6-3 win at the top of the lineup to improve to 5-4 on the season.  Caro followed with her first career singles win, a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at second singles, before Polce secured the victory with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph in the third spot to secure the victory.
 
Lourdes (1-4, 1-4) will close out the regular season on Friday as the Gray Wolves travel to Lima, Ohio for a make-up match against Northwestern Ohio.  First serve against the Racers is set for 10 a.m. at Racer Courts.
