Final Results
Led by a singles championship in the A flight by
Ondrej Skokan (Pardubice, Czech Republic/Gymnazium Dasicka 1083), Lourdes wrapped up a successful weekend at the Comet Invitational hosted by Capital on Saturday afternoon at Wolfe Park in Columbus, Ohio.
Â
"It goes without saying that we've settled into a groove, and a deep one, already in this season," head coach
Epifani Jones said afterwards. Â "Winning 32 of 37 matches in a matter of four days is a tremendous amount of momentum to carry us through the fall, and we have yet to work out the nuances of positions and partnerships. Â The intensity provided by our freshman was highlighted by Ondrej winning the top flight,
Theo Casadei making his debut as a Gray Wolf, and
Cody Keller's dramatic saving of four straight match points in his final efforts. And there is more to come."
Â
Skokan won the A flight with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over teammate
Victor Dieltiens (Altea, Spain/Sint Eduardus [Belgium]) in the title match.Â
Theo Casadei (Annecy Le Vieux, France/CNED) took third in the same flight.
Â
Alvaro Trillo-Sanchez (Madrid, Spain/Churchill County [Nev.] H.S.) finished runner-up in the B flight, falling to Capital's Luke Ritchie 6-1, 6-2 in the championship.
Â
Skokan also teamed with Casadei for an 8-2 triumph in doubles action on the final day while
Niladri Aich (Cooch Behar, India/Maumee Valley Country Day [Ohio] H.S.) and
Cody Keller (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) teamed for a victory as well by the score of 8-3.
Â
Lourdes will return to action on Sept. 20 for a dual match at Wittenberg. Action is slated to begin at 4 p.m. at the Albright Tennis Complex in Springfield, Ohio.
