Final Results
Luis Guzman (Santo Domingo, D.R./Cranston East [R.I.] H.S.) won three singles matches on Friday to capture the championship in the B consolation draw at the ITA Midwest Championship held at Sutter Tennis Center in Marion, Ind.
Guzman began his day with an 8-4 victory over Austin Kuklak of Marian to advance to the semifinal round. There, the freshman was an 8-1 victor over Clayton Amburgy of Mount Vernon Nazarene. In the championship match, Guzman downed another Mount Vernon Nazarene player, Carter Jones, to capture the title with an 8-4 win.
Lourdes also had a doubles team in the finals of the B consolation draw.
Theo Casedi (Annecy Le Vieux, France/CNED) and
Cody Keller (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) advanced to the championship match with a walkover against a team from Indiana-Southeast. In the finals, the duo dropped an 8-3 decision to a Marian duo.
In the main consolation draw,
Ondrej Skokan (Pardubice, Czech Repubic/Gymnazium Dasicka 1083) and
Ulises Barradas (Nueva Esparta, Venezuela/UE Colegio Madre Guadalupe) lost their semifinal match 8-3 to a team from Goshen.
Lourdes will return to dual match action on Sunday afternoon for their long home match of the fall. The Gray Wolves will host Franklin beginning at noon at Shadow Valley Tennis Club.
