Upcoming in Gray Wolves Soccer: Lourdes returns to home to Wildcat Stadium for a pair of matches this week. The Gray Wolves will entertain Indiana Tech on Wednesday afternoon before hosting Aquinas on Saturday for its annual Cancer Match.
Head Coach Jackie Phillips: In her ninth season on the Lourdes bench,
Jackie Phillips has a 57-76-18 (.437) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves as well as overall as a head coach. She is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes and Indiana Tech have split eight previous matches 4-4 in a series that began Oct. 10, 2015. The Gray Wolves have won two straight meetings following a 1-0 triumph in Fort Wayne, Ind. last season. Lourdes is 3-1 against the Warriors all-time at Wildcat Stadium. Aquinas is 8-0-1 against Lourdes in a series that dates back to Oct. 28, 2015. Last year, the Saints scored a 2-0 win over the Gray Wolves in Grand Rapids, Mich. Aquinas is 3-0-1 against Lourdes all-time at Wildcat Stadium.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Madonna jumped out to a 3-0 lead before
Laura Rincon found the back of the net last Wednesday in a 3-1 Gray Wolf setback at home against the Crusaders.
Emmy Rodger made three saves between the posts for the Gray Wolves. On Friday,
Zoey Trout gave Lourdes a lead but Rochester (Mich.) scored twice in the final 18 minutes to rally and defeat the Gray Wolves 2-1 in Washington Township, Mich. Rodger had seven saves in goal for Lourdes in the loss.
Scouting Indiana Tech: The Warriors have dropped three consecutive matches after suffering a 3-0 setback at Cornerstone on Saturday afternoon. Addison Nellis and Cassie Palazzolo lead Indiana Tech with two goals and four points each while Danielle Dunn and Savannah Simmers each have one assist for the Warriors. In goal, Michaela Bitle has started every match, sporting a 2.24 goals against average and a .788 save percentage.
Scouting Aquinas: The Saints had their nine-match winning streak snapped on Saturday with a scoreless draw at home against Northwestern Ohio. Aquinas is at Cornerstone on Wednesday before visiting Lourdes. Sydney Shenk leads the Saints in scoring on the season with nine goals and 23 total points. Laia Cunill has added a team-high seven assists and has 15 total points. Maeva Lichtensteiger also has 15 points, including six goals. In net, Kayla Shuk has played all but one match, sporting a 0.20 goals against average and a .900 save percentage while recording eight shutouts.
Cancer Match Saturday: Lourdes will hold its annual Cancer Match on Saturday against Aquinas. The Gray Wolves look to raise awareness for all types of cancer while also raising funds to help support cancer research.
Trout Scores First Collegiate Goal: Zoey Trout scored her first collegiate goal for the Gray Wolves on Saturday, giving Lourdes a 1-0 lead at Rochester (Mich.). The tally came in the sophomore's 27th career match and doubled her career point total after handing out a pair of assists during the 2022 season.
Rincon Finds Pay Dirt for Second Time: Laura Rincon scored her second goal as a Gray Wolf late in the match against Madonna last Wednesday. The junior transfer also found the back of the net against Roosevelt in her Lourdes debut back on Aug. 27.
Lynam and Boskovich Lead Offense: Taylir Lynam has scored a team-leading four goals this season and added her first assist of the year against Rochester (Mich.) to give her nine points on the season.
Keira Boskovich leads the team in points with 10, having scored three times while handing out a team-leading four assists.
Moving Up the Scoring List: Kayla Dillinger continues to move up the scoring list. Dillinger has seven career goals moving her into a tie for eighth place on Lourdes' all-time list with Katie Varney (2019-2021) and
Erin Caldwell (2018-2022). Dillinger's 17 career points also move her into a tie with Jada Foster (2015-2016) for eighth place on that list. Dillinger has three career match-winning goals as well, tying her with Clare Ciarlino (2016-2017) for seventh in program history.
Pencil Her in the Lineup: Gianna Salatino has started every match for the Gray Wolves this season, giving her 56 career starts wearing the terra cotta and black. She has moved into fifth place alone on the career list and Salatino now needs just five more starting assignments to move into a tie for third on the all-time list. Salatino has appeared in 64 career matches, tied for sixth most in program history.
Captains Named: Lourdes has a pair of co-captains for the 2023 season.
Simona Iacobacci and
Gianna Salatino in the leadership position. Iacobacci is a first time team captain while Salatino is serving in the role for the second consecutive season.
Gray Wolves Tabbed Sixth in WHAC Preseason Poll: Lourdes was selected to finish in sixth place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. The Gray Wolves were picked just behind fifth place Northwestern Ohio. Aquinas was chosen to win the league crown.
